Mike D'Antoni named Western Conference Coach of the Month

The New York Knicks' Mike Woodson and the Los Angeles Lakers' Mike D'Antoni today were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in April
D'Antoni guided the Lakers to a share (Denver, Los Angeles Clippers) of the best record in the conference in April at 7-1 (.875). The Lakers won five straight games to close the season, including three over Western Conference playoff teams -- Golden State, San Antonio and Houston, the final two without the services of Kobe Bryant (torn Achilles tendon). The seventh-seeded Lakers finished the season 45-37 (.549).

Would it be unfair to D'Antoni to say his hands off approach is what led to our run? Or have I totally misinterpreted our 2nd half success?
Either way, congrats D'Antoni on making the proper adjustments and getting ourselves out of that huge hole!

Funny, there are articles going around that he told Pau to NOT pay attention to what the coach says. Don't know . . . just what was being reported.

It was Kobe who went all in and logged the minutes to go 6-1 and give us the conference record tie breaker, as well as kept gutting it out vs GS to win that game and. Series
It was also Kobe who Pau admitted told him to just stand their at the elbow and attack, as well as told Dwight stand with two feet in the paint. Dantoni didn't think to just play them where they were comfortable which is why we lost the first two games with Pau back
Dantonis just a figure head but at least he knows when to shut up and relent to let others lead

I don't want him to get too comfortable. He's still in the hot seat, as far as I'm concerned.

This award really does not mean much nor should it be given much attention. This same dude won a COTY by coaching a Nash-led Suns team to a high number of wins. However, D'Antoni deserves credit for adapting his so-called "system" to fit both Pau and D12, but I'm still skeptical of giving him any type of award. He needs to realize his flaws and work to fix them as long as he is the coach of the Lakers, and any award will just make him more comfortable.

Damn chill out guys no one cares about the "of the week/month" awards. He just got it cuz Lakers were bad before but we had the best win % this month. Not like the NBA analyzed his coaching and decided he was the best coach this month
