Bearhugging Needs To Be A Flagarant

There is just no way possible that a player should be allowed to bear hug another guy like they just did Howard to stop him from shooting the ball - that makes less sense to me then the 3 second rule in the paint

No, because it's just a way to make a "safe " foul that doesn't (potentially) physically hurt the other player.

Would you rather that the other team continually smack him with a hard, hard foul on the arm (has to be extra hard to stop the shot) or just grab the arm and hang on and cause arm damage?

I would rather see them take atleast a two step in the direction of making the game more competitive. First by limiting the intentional fouling system all together and make it tougher for the team doing that to get away, like changing it so that it's the last 2 minutes of every quarter instead of the last quarter. They need a third level that is in between a flagarant and regular foul like a blatant foul tha penalizes the team a bit more so that they will not be inclined to committ 40 fouls in a small amount of time. The flagarants needs to be redefined so that they can't hurt players. Honestly - that is the reason Kobe has been using his elbows into their faces for so many years - he had to do that to protect himself from non-calls

Bad thread but I'm with you on the intentional fouls. Maybe make the entire 4th qtr in the "intention foul penalty" where you get 2 shots and the ball back. Do something.

On intentional fouls you get three shots to make two baskets. Even a bad free throw shooter like Dwight could punish teams with that rule in place.

Seriously though I look forward to seeing what Dwight can do next year once he has a full offseason to get his body right. He said he hasn't been able to lift weights and I'm sure that's having an affect on his game.

Should be 1 shot and the ball back. Intentional fouls are stupid. Play defense or gtfo. I can't think of any situations where intentional fouls make the game more interesting. Free throw BS at the end of games where the loser wants to try a hail mary comeback, fouling on fast breaks when you're beat, fouls on sure thing buckets deep in the paint...all nonsense.

Aggressive defense and going for a steal knowing you're probably going to get a foul is one thing, bear hugging is another. Not a basketball play in any way, shape, or form. Anything you'll never see in a playground game needs to be reconsidered.

Either that or some kind of a system that give them an extra two shots if they commit a certain amount of fouls in less then any 5 minute period. So that the team has to dial it back before they get rediculous
