Goudelock gets his shot

Post#1 » by B-Scott » Fri Apr 26, 2013 9:57 pm

Big supporter of Goudelock and felt he never got a opportunity. Under Mike Brown he was always in the game with nothing but bench players. He's a guy who could potentially shine if in the game with players who draw double teams because of his 3 point shooting ability.

Tonight he will get his shot with Howard and Gasol drawing double teams

Swear I read this title as "Goudelock gets Shot"... And based on how this season is going, I wasn't even surprised.

He played well it is just that his defense is weak. He is too short and presents mismatches. Unless goidelock can be used as a pg then its just hard to find use for him because of his height.....for an sg you need to be at least 6'4 minimum in this league.

He's a great scorer but he's just too undersized. He needs to learn how to play some PG then maybe he'll be useful in the long run.

Meh he might be a nice 3rd man off the bench, other than that he's nothing special.

hes not undersized, he can play like Eddie House, & even better than him.

What a shot at Shaw's defense.

God save the Spurs from Stephen Curry if Steve Blake and Goudelock feel that no one on that team can hold them.

Goudelock production would have more impact if on same floor with Kobe and Steve Blake. Right now he's playing with Darius Morris and the Laker small forwards are garbage.

As for as defense. Neither Meeks, Kobe or anyone else can check Tony Parker 1 on 1

Glock was left on a island. Nobody can check Parker 1 on 1 with NO HELP

What a shot at Shaw's defense.

And playmaking. I don't see that comparison at all. Best case scenario is another Gary Neal.

Goudelock got shafted by Brown. This kid's got talent and I hope there's a Gary Neal, come in for a few minutes and put up points, type role for him next year.

It was hard for Andrew Goudelock not to smile as he sat in front of his locker, even after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120-89 loss to the San Antonio Spurs Friday night.

He wasn’t smiling because he scored 20 points and was the leading scorer on the Lakers for much of the game.

He wasn’t smiling because the D-League MVP trophy he was given before the game was sitting right behind him, placed in a cardboard box that looked like it had just been shipped to him overnight.

And he wasn’t smiling because Metta World Peace was teasing him about being surrounded by dozens of reporters and cameras.

He was smiling because he was simply sitting in an NBA locker room again.

Not bad for a guy who went from making about $475,000 last season to borrowing money from his college girlfriend to pay to his bills last month.

“I’m broke,” Goudelock said. “I’m cool. Nobody would know that I’m broke. I just come here with a smile on my face.”

It’s an unusual confession for an NBA player starting in the playoffs to make, but Goudelock wasn’t even in the league two weeks ago.

Goudelock, who was a second-round draft pick of the Lakers in 2011, was cut by L.A. back before the season opener on October 27. He ended up being drafted by the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the D-League and later traded to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he averaged 21.4 points and won the D-League MVP, an award he didn’t even know existed before he won it.

Less than two weeks ago, the Lakers signed him for the final two games of the regular season and playoffs after Kobe Bryant ruptured his Achilles tendon.

“This business just keeps getting crazier,” Goudelock said. “I wouldn’t think I’d be here two weeks ago. Nothing happens the way it’s supposed to happen. This is a great opportunity going from the D-League a week and a half ago to starting in the playoffs. It shows you the nature of the business.”

Business wasn’t so good for Goudelock after being cut by the Lakers. Despite playing well in front of dozens of fans in cities like Bakersfield, Canton and Erie, Goudelock was living paycheck to paycheck after finishing up his rookie salary.

“I was so broke, I had to borrow money,” Goudelock said. “I’ve had the same girlfriend since college and I had to call her to give me money and she’s still in college but I didn’t have any other choice. I didn’t want to call my parents. I’m too old for that. Some days I couldn’t even eat and she sent me money. It’s definitely an experience I’m going to tell my kids about.”

I think he deserves a contract next year. He and Jamison can definitely give us some scoring off the bench.

He still has to work a lot on his game, but hopefully the experience has taught him to work harder and he will put in some work in the summer.
He should work on his three's and even some defense.
Hope he sticks around for the Lakers. Very humble dude.
Congrats to Glock.

Mike Brown was almost inviting to be fired for his rotations earlier in the season. Happy that Glock got his chance!

his 3s? He was drafted because he was a good three point shooter.
