Can the Lakers still afford to acquire CP3?

He'll be a free agent after a disappointing season. He will be with a team that couldn't compete with the Grizzlies. Grizzlies are tough and some say that losing to the Grizzlies is "okay" and "not so bad" but Chris Paul has championship aspirations. Clippers won't improve from this point on, they will just get worse.
I am wondering if CP3 wanted to sign with the Lakers, what would the Lakers have to do to make room and if they can acquire CP3 and still acquire a deep bench....

Amnesty Kobe
Trade Gasol for basically nothing in return salary wise
Trade Nash for basically nothing in return salary wise
Trade MWP(assuming he opts in)for basically nothing in return salary wise
Gasol has a 19 mil contract,Nash 9 mil and MWP 7 mil.....that's 35 mil in salary,almost impossible to wipe that all out,at the very least we'll take back 15 mil in salaries and that's if we get some huge trade exceptions(unlikely)
More like 20-25 mil in return,15 would be stretching
This assuming Dwight resigns
So yeah,not happening

Hire Chris Paul as a player for MMLE & CLiff Paul as an executive for $20 mil per year. Cliff Paul will assist Chris Paul, its in their blood.

Mitch finds a way to sign cp3, he would be gm or the decade. So, I say no. d12 might just walk and give up 30 million just to start over.
Lakers paid out to much to try to win for JB and now it is showing. No draft picks, old roster. Going to have to tear this team down to the studs and hope to start over again. Not winning means no money is coming in and money is going out to players. So that makes the lakers in the red. Not a good place to be. Kobe counts 80 million himself. OUCH

i've always wondered if players give other players money under the table without organization knowing. like if kobe wanted to recruit a free agent, sign him to minimum and pay him an extra 10 mil from kobe's pocket or something haha

Why would Kobe or any othe players do that? I think you mean Lakers organization, not Kobe.

CP is not leaving the Clippers. He is too happy there and they have a very bright future. They have plenty of bargaining chips to continue building.

Trade Pau and Hill to Minny for Williams Shved and Picks to Clippers and Paul to Lakers... Paul would have to play his cards right and use Dallas as leverage.. Clips are idiots and would budge under pressure(they really don't know anything about pressure).

if kobe's incentive is to win another championship, why wouldnt he? he knows that his salary is hurting our chances of signing big time players. dude gets enough money from nike and other endorsements anyways. he reaches out to player X, tells him to agree to sign for minimum with the lakers with promises of cash under the table. probably a lot harder for the league to track kobe's finances than the lakers organization

Lets assume that the Lakers talk to Chris Paul and they convince him that the Lakers is the place to be. That's most likely the longest shot ever but the Lakers got Pau Gasol a few years ago and Dwight Howard last year so anything is possible.
Then the Lakers would need help from a team under the cap to sign Paul to a maximum contract possible and then do a sign and trade. That would make Steve Nash expendable and I seriously doubt D'antoni would continue coaching if the team did that to him.
Now actually that would be win win because then the Lakers could get Phil Jackson back
You do realize, however this is not going to happen. There is a greater chance that every man on this board does what he wants to without getting permission from his wife first.

I can easily see CP3 wanting to come to the Lakers to play with Dwight and Kobe. What I don't see is the flexibility to in any way get this deal done. There's just too many obstacles.
