Pau Gasol undergoing procedure for knee tendonosis

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol will undergo a procedure Thursday to address the tendonosis in both of his knees, the team announced Wednesday.

The procedure, known as the FAST (Focused Aspiration of Scar Tissue) technique, involves a probe being inserted into the knee that "directs ultrasonic energy to eliminate scar tissue without damaging healthy tissue," according to a team release.

"After talking to several specialists, I'm going to proceed to regenerate both of my patellar tendons and working hard to get back to my 100%," Gasol wrote on Twitter.

"My knees are being an issue," Gasol said during the Lakers' first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs. "My patellar tendons are suffering."

Gasol said his left knee, which is the leg he jumps off, is hurting more than his right.

"It's more than tendinitis, it's tendonosis," Gasol said. "There's a degeneration of the tissue, and it's something that I've dealt with all year. So I'll have to do something to regenerate the tissue so I don't have to play with this pain."

Hope it helps a lot, you could tell Pau wasn't near fully healthy. If he sits due to his injuries he gets hated on, but if he plays through it and doesn't play like all-star Pau, he gets hated on. Here's to a fresh Pau next year.

it actually increased quite substantially after the ASG. Dude just has 3 triple doubles in his last six games. Even Lebron doesn't do that.

Dont know why he isnt getting the same procedure Kobe got. Unless this is a completely different issue. Kobe treatment has been proven. Why go another route? I wonder...

He shot a career worst % wise and what ever he gave you on the offensive side, he gave up on the other end with his D.

I respect Pau as well as his offensive skill set but on D (!), wow... I'd like to see Pau retire a LAker. He's represented a lot to the organization and the city, but, given that the LAkers are phasing into the youth movement of sorts he may be on his way out sooner than his contract expires.

If there were another procedure that Pau can undergo in which (t...) fortitude can be regenerated, do it Pau!

This wiped Tim Duncan out a couple of years ago, and he only had it in one knee.

Yep Tim took time to get his leg back. Tim is also a harder worker, more skilled, and just plain better than Pau. Not sure how I feel about Pau having both knees operated on. He could very well be Bynum next year. Its the perfect calculated way to make sure he isn't traded, but this may also make an amnesty of him possible. People can talk triple doubles but he guy was awful on O especially without Kobe to hide behind and his D was a tie with Nash's.

I'm glad he's healing up both as a person and as a member of the Lakers. If he returns to good form, we can integrate him or we can trade him. It's win-win for all parties involved, especially me.

yes and after he came back healthy he was shooting over 50% until the end of the year. btw this is what the tread is about, him making sure he's back healthy next year.
