Free Agent Update

Why are WE NOT signing free agents... There are a number of guys that signed for good values that would help us right now, such as:
1. Collison: Took a portion on MML to come to LA ($1.9 a year for 2 years).
2. Wright: Got $6 million for 2 years.
3. Garcia: Took Vet Min $1.4 for 2 years.
4. Barnes: Took MML ($9 million for 3 years).
5. Clark: Got $2 million a year.
I know we don't want long term deals but we do need some players on the roster next season... We need some wings and a stretch PF... MWP is the only experienced forward on the roster... Is anybody else getting frustrated and/or concerned... We need some wings to field a team...

I was thinking about Collinson today seeing as the Mavs signed Calderon and Devin Harris. He was there for the taking and he's sapped up by the Clippers of all teams.
Mitch is wasting time checking in on ex Lakers. ...we need a balance of youth and vet skill to have a decent season.

Understood but if we would have picked up Collison and Garcia that would give us some depth and quickness... Does Mitch have a move up his sleeve... Can't see us tanking and don't see a Pau dump for picks or a young player or two...

Collison and Garcia chose a better chance at contention. There will still be names out there when the money dries up and it becomes evident that we can offer playing time to showcase them for 2014 free agency.

What's the incentive for an FA to come here for cheap? Nothing. As much as I hate to say it the Lakers will be a 7th seed at best, with not making the playoff a very realistic possibility. Mitch was always able to sway FA's with a championship caliber squad, Mitch can't do that anymore. Only thing Mitch can offer now is playing time at best.

Nick Young is still available. K-Mart as well. Who else?

Collison & Barnes wanted to be in LA... We could have offered Barnes the starting spot and Collison would get more minutes... Both compelling arguments... I guess I am looking for some small moves for value players to fill some holes before the well dries up...

I made a big list on the roster moves-offseason thread on page 25 I think, but off the top of my head:
-Lamar Odom
-Corey Brewer
-Elton Brand
-Reggie Williams
-Rodrigue Beaubois
-Xavier Henry
-Ivan Johnson
-Chris Douglas Roberts
-Delonte West
-Austin Daye
-James Jones
-Cartier Martin
-Greg Oden
-Sam Young
Tons of free agents out there

the lakers were not going to use the MMLE on a backup pg like collison, makes zero sense when nash and blake are on the books and u have two huge holes at sf/pf, specially if u amnesty MWP to get close to the lux tax level. wouldn't be surprised if getting out of the lux tax is a goal if the season goes sour soon. dump hill by the deadline and you're probably under the lux tax, but only if u don't use the entire MMLE.
wright got the max the lakers could offer, so at that point its just player preference.
garcia signed a contract with the rockets that puts him in a position to have bird rights at the end of the yr where the rockets can give him a nice raise. add the fact that garcia was already playing in houston, and they had a clear advantage.
barnes got over 10 mil in 3 yrs, lakers can't offer that
clark got 4-5 a yr, which right now would cost the lakers 11-12 mil a yr in lux tax. at the time clark committed when howard could still possibly re-sign, clark's 4-5mil a yr salary would have cost the lakers around 20 mil a yr due to how high they'd be on the lux tax scale.

In fairness the Clippers had the full nontaxpayer MLE to work with, we only have the MMLE. Barnes was out of our price range at 3 years, 11-12M. I'm assuming Collison took a 2 year worth 4M or so. Both wanted to play in LA for sure, one was going for the money, the other for championship aspirations. We don't have either at the moment.

Young, Delfino, Billups, LO, Shawne, Turiaf, Teague & Mo Williams are a couple candidates...

No adding contracts beyond 2014, if there are no MMLE one-yr or one-yr+team option takers then so be it. Just amnesty MWP, get below the lux tax and fill the roster with min salary players

I personally would like to see the Lakers sign Greg Oden for cheap with the promise of playing time. If he plays well then the Lakers could re-sign him for a longer contract the following season... if injury prone Lakers lose nothing.

With Lakers saving a ton with D12 departure the Lakers won't amnesty MWP. If he does leave they will trade him using his expiring contract to get something of value in return.

Another good FA idea would be to sign Leandro Barbosa, he did very well in MDA's system during their time in Phoenix.

Delfino $1.4... LO $1.4... Daye $2.0 (portion of MML)...

lakers would have to give something of value to trade his contract, not receive something of value.
