The Master Plan

Post Howard defection and prior Kobe/Melo vacation weekend - it all unfolded before me:

-The Lakers are letting Mike D. coach out this season because there's no sense in dropping him now and having to pay his salary, plus the added benefit that he will provide crappy results ...

-But just in case we weren't going to get the crappy results we want, we're going to amnesty MWP (even though his expiring contract gives us more flexibility) AND we're not going to put a full court press on getting an significant Free Agents ...

-Because, quite simply, we cannot afford to finish in the top 12 teams this year. Our pick is top 20 protected - if we finish in the top 12 then Dallas gets our pick ...

-So, just to make absolutely sure we aren't great ... we sign Kaman so that Pau is only getting 28 minutes a game to avoid injury and not carry this team in any way, shape or form.

-And, as important, if we finish in the top 12 then Mike D. didn't deliver the crappy results we need to justify the next series of moves ...

-We are going to get a lottery pick (start praying for a frozen envelope or a weighted ping pong ball).

-We are going to fire Mike D. and sign Phil.

-We are going to sign Melo.

-We are going to have a newly signed low cost deal for a fresh Pau (from limited minutes).

-We are going to have a newly signed low cost deal for Kobe with a fully heeled achilles.

-We are going to pitch LeBron on joining Melo, Kobe, Pau and Nash.

-If he says no ... we are going to sign Chris Bosh.

That, my friends, is the master plan. I'm not Stephen A. Just getting my Nostradamus on.

Wow my first time posting to RGM using Windows. I seriously cant see how people use this everyday. Whatever i guess keeps cost's down and...not going there..anyhow! (Testing Maverick with a VM of Win 8+ beta)

I pretty much agree with just about everything you posted except for the Chris Bosh thing...cough cough gag gag

We are approaching the last year of what one might call "Plan A"

Thats simply to free up cap space and sign key free agents. The problem is the Lakers today do not hold the same prestige that was once held. Who cares why at this point but thats certainly a discussion worthy of the attention of you well versed NBA chaps with nothing better to do.

Over the next year the rumors are going to be more hyped than anything we have ever seen. It's been quite a long time the Lakers had any cap space let alone enough to sign 2+ major players.

I smell an emergency lockout about to happen....not ....cant happen for many years now. But they would if they could (Other Owners)

So yeah , i would not be surprised if the real plan is to play out this year and pretend we are contending...but go fishing early enough to be on a beach by the end of April.

Lastly you have to keep in mind the current direction...
One year deals
Expiring contracts
young talent with potential upside
acquire as many draft pics as possible
young talent that can be had on the cheap in hopes for trades for picks and more promising talents.

I'm not overly concerned but still wish Jimmy retired from basketball and went back to Hollywood Park before it's bulldozed.
