ESPN: Howard wanted Lakers to get rid of Kobe

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/stor ... les-lakersDwight Howard's distaste for the offense and approach of coach Mike D'Antoni is widely cited as the biggest trigger in his decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers. But another key factor that led the All-Star center to the Houston Rockets was the Lakers' refusal to establish a clear timetable for moving on from the Kobe Bryant era, according to sources with knowledge of Howard's thinking.
Sources told ESPN.com that Howard and his representatives, in a handful of meetings with Lakers officials before he became a free agent July 1, strongly suggested that the center would have a difficult time re-signing with Los Angeles if Bryant stayed with the franchise beyond the 2013-14 season, the final year of his current contract.
"How can it be Kobe's team and Dwight's team?" one source said. "It was about the passing of the torch."
As an offshoot of those discussions, sources said, Howard's camp at one point asked the Lakers whether they were at least considering releasing Bryant through the league's amnesty provision, since Bryant's return date from Achilles tendon surgery remained in question.
ah, there it is.

I'd rather have Kobe, his heart and drive, and fierce loyalty to the Lakers over the mental midget Dwight Coward anytime.

Wow glad we dodged that bullet.
I'll take a 35 year old Kobe coming off a serious injury over any form of Dwight any day.

LMAO....that maggot can't be serious. So ahh yeah we're just going to dump Kobe on the strength that that fool was going to carry the franchise ? B*itch you haven't won squat in 9 years and he and his Rockets are a long long way from winning. Gotta crawl before you walk....believe that.

If this is true, that Dwight had previous meetings with Laker officials asking to get rid of Kobe, I love that the Lakers still invited Kobe to the meeting to get Dwight to stay. They sent a clear message of "This is Kobe's franchise whether you like it or not until you prove you deserve to be handed the keys." Pretty glad we dodged the bullet of having this headcase as the face of our franchise.

I got to say it takes balls, but then again he's the same guy who was seen bad mouthing him in the all star locker room and media day, then reportedly wouldn't say anything when Kobe entered or Melo was around according to Stephen A Smith. Likewise he went around showing off his box and talking about him according to reports and then had nothing to say when Kobe dared him to say it.
He expected the lakers to bow like Orlando with SVG

also, this is why you don't start the slippery slope of acquiescing to player demands like which coach they want fired. i'm glad the front office doesn't do it for anyone. learned from dr. buss.

If we followed Dwight's plan (trading everyone away for nothing), we'd be left with a big 3 of Dwight/Monte Ellis/Josh Smith

Then Mitch and Jim bring him into the meeting, and basically say tell him Dwight.
Kinda like the players meeting when he bad mouthed him and the Lakers and Kobe say talk to his face, and Dwight said nothing. Or the all star week where he was said to be talking about him and then wouldn't say anything when Kobe or Melo was around according to Stephen A Smith
He wanted the Lakers to pull a SVG, without putting any work in to prove his loyalty. Kobe put work, outplayed him last year. Kobe put work more so than Shaq over time, more than Eddie and Nick which is why la stuck with him. Its a weird dynamic that went thru thus team with Dwight.
Is not just Kobe. You have Pau pissed off and not even wishing him well. You have Nash saying he didnt want to be here or but in. You have Metta saying chemistry just improved when Dwight chose Houston and that they would contend without him, and then Kobe and Pau both tweeting support to Metta when the amnesty news hit. You have former lakers being called back in talking about we love LA. Legends roasting Dwight.
It all comes back to why the **** didnt he opt out if he knew he risked being where he didnt want to be, which was anywhere but Brooklyn? And why the **** didnt he man up and outplay Kobe, put the work in, and stake his claim to show why he should be seen as the star let alone equal? Good riddance, I'd go to war with fat Shaq, Soft Pau, or washed up mental Odom any day.

too bad the media doesn't see it that way when you have SAS going around to every local radio station making sure his tirade for Jim Buss is heard to everyone. unfortunately there are too many idiots that can be easily swayed by him.
