Lakers To Sign Shawne Williams
July 19 at 6:22pm CST By Chuck Myron
The Lakers and Shawne Williams have reached agreement on deal that will bring the veteran forward to training camp, tweets Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. The wording of Begley's tweet indicates that it's just a camp invitation, which would mean a one-year, minimum-salary deal with no guarantee, but the precise terms of the arrangement are unclear.
Marc Berman of the New York Post wrote last month that Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, who had Williams on one of his Knicks teams, wanted to work with him again, and Begley notes that D'Antoni regards the 27-year-old highly. Williams reportedly worked out for the Lakers and several other teams this summer, including the Knicks. Agent Happy Walters said in June that Williams "loved his time" with New York but would make playing time a priority when he chose his next team.
The University of Memphis product has spent parts of five seasons in the NBA, last appearing with the Nets in 2011/12. He averaged double-digit minutes all five years, but he's put up just 5.7 points per game for his career.

Nice. The first step in order to be a decent defensive team is to have decent defensive players.

Camp invite. Just like Ryan Kelly and possibly CDR and Landry. Nothing like some competition
If he's out to prove something the 10th man role is open to take right now. But aye if they were set on our PF spot we would hear it

Williams has nice size and can stretch the floor with his decent jumper. He shot 40% from beyond the arc (212 attempts) when D'Antoni coached him. I think he can make the roster.

He's better than Clark, and people thought Clark sucked before he got decent playing time

Worth a look in camp if he's serious about turning his career around.

Williams signed with the Indiana Pacers July 6, 2006. Williams scored 13 points in his NBA debut against the Chicago Bulls on December 11, 2006. He now ranks second among Pacers rookies of all time with points scored in a rookie debut.
On October 10, 2008, Williams was traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Eddie Jones, two second-round draft picks and cash.[1]
On January 11, 2010, the Mavericks traded him and Kris Humphries to the New Jersey Nets for Eduardo Najera.[2] Four days later, the Nets waived Williams.[3]
On September 23, 2010, the New York Knicks signed Williams to a one-year contract.[4] Williams had his best season with New York, playing a key role off the bench for the team as the Knicks reached the 2011 NBA playoffs.
On December 15, 2011, the New Jersey Nets signed Williams to a two-year contract, beating the offer made by the New York Knicks.[5]
On March 15, 2012, the Nets traded Williams, Mehmet Okur, and a 2012 first-round draft pick to the Portland Trail Blazers for veteran small forward Gerald Wallace. Williams never appeared in a game for Portland.

Shawne Williams was a D'Antoni specialist in New York. If D'Antoni actually tries having his system anything similar to New York with Amare & in Phoenix. He could be a useful player I bet.

Can L.A. get away with a Williams-Gasol FC? You're basically talking about an offense where the C is 14 feet from the basket, Kobe is defended by a SG in the low post, and the PF is guarding Williams across the court.
It's over, it's done. The opposing team is in total **** on defense.
