http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?secti ... id=9189607 INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- The company that owns New York's Madison Square Garden is moving west. On Tuesday, officials announced a $100 million plan to revitalize and reopen the Forum in Inglewood.
The forum was purchased last year for approximately $23.5 million. There are now plans for a $100 million renovation to turn the forum into a high-end concert hall.
The goal is to bring the Forum back to its glory days, where rock legends like the Rolling Stones and even Elvis Presley performed at the venue.
In 1999, the Forum lost its biggest tenants - the Los Angeles Lakers and the Kings - when Staples Center was built. Since then, most big concerts have gravitated toward Staples Center as well.
Madison Square Garden officials say their renovations will bring performers back to the Forum. With the Hollywood Park Casino down the street being transformed into an upscale living and shopping center, officials hope concertgoers feel safe...
didn't think there would be a market left for a "new" venue in LA, but i guess it can fill the void left by the gibson amphitheater once its shoved aside for harry potter world.

That place is still the pride of the city of Inglewood. Pass by that place everyday

I wish they would've just kept it in its original old school form. It brings back the old Lakers memories everytime I go there. Refurbishing the Forum could take that 'old school feel' away.

I remember that preseason run with the Lakers and Warriors in Oct. of 2009, never realized how cramped it was to be in there compared to Staples. For pro sports its a done deal...just can't accommodate crowds. For concerts and maybe high school championships it could work.

My hometown is like a 10 minute drive away from the Forum.
Glad to see it will be put to good use.

Slippers should consider it. They take all our used stuff anyways.

Not a bad area. Century has been developing pretty well these past few years. There a lot of stores and restaurants now.

I was involved with some of the initial planning from a technology perspective about 6 years ago and it's nice to finally see the project progressing.
The city is really putting alot of it's own $$ into this but the developers are really going all in, and James Dolan one who is often the butt of jokes is one of those investors/developers that has also put lots of skin in the game.

yea I went to that game thinking it would bring back nostalgia from when I used to watch games there as a teenager in 90's. I realized how outdated the place was for a pro sports team in this day and age. They still have concerts there if I'm not mistaken they had a prince concert there recently. I wonder what they did with all the banners and retired jerseys that they used to have up on the walls? For some reason I was expecting them to still be there. I remember a couple of years back it was used as a church and they had free health services being performed there.

One of the most beautiful and distinctive arenas in the world, and so much history. Glad to see it will still have a purpose.

the forum has amazing acoustics for concerts...a thousand times better than staples. i saw the foo fighters and one of prince's shows there a few years ago. im so glad they are upgrading it. it's much too cramped for sports but perfect for music.
