Free-agent PG Sebastian Telfair drawing interest from Celtics, Lakers and Spurs, league sources say.

Does he do anything for you? Most certainly would mean Blake and/or Meeks would be out because we would have way to many PG's lol. He cant shoot as good as Steve Blake or Meeks either. But is a better ball handler than both. A rotation of Nash/Farmer/Telfair does sound intriguing though. Blake can still play the combo PG/SG. We'll need Steve's toughness and defense.

Thoughts?

I guess Meeks is more of a SG than a PG but man I just dont see how he gets any serious minutes this season. I expect Blake, Farmar, Young, Johnson to play more than Meeks. And thats not even including Kobe into the mix.

How close are we to getting under the Luxury Tax thresh? Wonder if this is the idea behind the thought of Telfair. Say he signs for the vet min... If either Blake or Meeks are moved. Does that get us under that threshold? I know were pretty close. If we do it will refresh the tax cycle in regards to penalties. That could help in the future if we decide to go back over again

If the Lakers move Blake then I'd be okay with it. Love what Blake did last year but I do want to see Farmar get a good amount of burn this season.

Telfair's a good defender and would be a decent addition as a third stringer.

Pretty sure the Lakers don't want to pay the lux tax this season as it will put a very small damper on their free agency plans the next few years (the repeator tax is quite the female dog).

A Telfair signing ultimately means that Blake is out the door in a trade at some point, in which case you can expect Jordan Hill to be gone as well for salary purposes as those two are the most moveable assets that will get them under the threshold.

We would need to move Blake and Hill to get under the threshold??? I thought it'd have to be one of the them but moving both is to much IMO

We're roughly 5 million over. Blake makes about 4. Even though that is an expiring contract, he has no real value at this point in his career, which means for someone to take him on there would have to be quite the sweetener attached. The Lakers dont have many draft picks to move (nor would they move what they do have left), and not many "small contract assets" to attach besides...... Jordan Hill.

Of course, Blake and Meeks would get it done as you suggested later in the post, just can't see anyone helping the Lakers get under the tax by taking on Blake AND Meeks, with no real reason to do so. At least attaching Hill gives the Lakers the ability to take on some 2-3 year 1-2 mill a year deal to make it somewhat enticing.

is this coming from Telfair's agent? sounds like leverage rumor spreading and not anything we really are looking to do.

Meh, he won't see any floor time behind Nash, Blake, and Farmar. I doubt this is serious

If signed he's just camp fodder, but he does offer speed at the 1. So far on Farmar is our best option there.
