EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent forward Shawne Williams, the team announced Tuesday. Williams' contract is one year deal for the veteran's minimum (worth approximately $1.1 million) but is only partially guaranteed, according to a league source.
Williams last played in the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets (then the New Jersey Nets) in 2011-12, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 25 games. The 6-foot-9 forward, drafted with the No. 17 pick out of Memphis by the Indiana Pacers in 2006, has career averages of 5.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.4 minutes in 215 career games (23 starts) for the Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Nets.
The 27-year-old Williams had the best production of his career playing under Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni for the Knicks in 2010-11. That season, Williams averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 40.1 percent on 3-pointers.
ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley previously reported Williams' invite to Lakers training camp in July.

Idk what to think about this.. Maybe we're gonna be out of Beasley price range or could it be possible that Rookie Kelly foot is worse off than originally thought?
EDIT UPDATE... Guess that foot isnt recovering fast enough

Included in my Beasley piece today (
http://es.pn/15BvhbU ): Lakers rookie Ryan Kelly's progress with his R foot is not going well

lakers committed to signing him almost two months ago, so i don't think it has anything to do with kelly or beasley.

I wasn't expecting much from Kelly anyway. As far as Beasley there isn't a price range he can command right now, you have to remember he's been in constant trouble with weed for years. He'd be lucky if he get's over vets min. And as for Williams, it's an ok pick up, I'd rather him be the 6'9" guy we use as a stretch 4 than J-Hill. Let's keep our strengths where they flourish.

I don't think Hill and Williams are starter caliber players but what I like about them is they both fit with Gasol.

Low risk low reward move... Would have preferred Johnson... Going to be an interesting season...

I told people Shawne Williams was going to make the team, because D'Antoni is a big fan of his and we have no true SFs. I can see Williams in the rotation and possibly starting.

BTW Shawne Williams is only 27.... Man this offseason Mitch and Jim did a solid job with helping us get younger players to put around our core. Solid job

Whats up with all these trolls saying Kobe is selfish and he doesn't want to take a pay cut this and that. I mean how can he take a pay cut when he's on his contract still?
Anyway Shawne Williams can get super hot from the 3 if he's making it. He plays a little bit of D also.

Great we have the long range 4 to provide the spacing for Gasol, Kaman and Hill. I'm loving this roster, I have a good feeling about this team
