He looks done, especially on defense.

No, his contract can be stretched but not amnestied.

No, a player can only be amnestied if he was on the same team during the new CBA in December 2011.

What Tiesto said and we used our amnesty on Metta

1)We just used our amnesty on Metta.
2)You can only do it on players that were on the team before the lockout season.

I think the stretch provision can drop his cap hit to 3.2m next season if we want that extra cap room and want to waive him. Also a 3.2m cap hits for the 2 seasons after that though.
Its not out of the question that he can be traded to a team with cap space. Worse case would be having to send a 1st rounder to get a team to take him though. I only see the Lakers doing that if they score big and could get both Lebron and Melo which is unlikely they get either.

No trading 1st rounders and plus we already owe 1st round picks to Suns and Magic. There's no point to stretch him after this season ether as it isn't a strong FA class.

Lemme get this right, 2 games into the preseason Nash is done and needs to be cut, while Xavier Henry is the second coming?
Oh ya now I remember why I don't post in these threads anymore

Shouldn't we wait a bit longer than 1 game before we decide he's useless?.....just a thought....

When has Nash ever looked un-done on defense?

Yeah, who cares about defense. Can he play offense at a high level is what I want to know. It still looks like the team has not figured out how to run a pick and roll to me. I'm not sure its Nash though. Nash really has not been the player who is faster then other pgs. Mainly he uses the pick and roll...and the Lakers did not have it last season and game 2 was about the same. Not sure Gasol can "roll". Kaman or Hill might work but then you have Gasol as the "floor spacer" again. Not sure what the answer is...?

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing any trades materialize with him. That's one place we need to play a net-plus defender if we do not have the rim protection offered by a Howard or Bynum.

I think if you trade Nash you are doing so because he either does not fit or for next season and the future. Without Nash though it feels like the team will rely more then ever on Kobe this season (coming off an injury not sure that is a great idea). The rest of the team is really unproven and you cannot rely on anyone to create offense. Gasol can do "some" efficiently. The rest of the guys will likely produce a pretty inefficient offense if asked to.

Unless Kobe returns to peak efficiency we are not doing anything this season and even if he does, we are still a leaking bucket because our defense is going to be very bad. Nothing I've known tells me we will have a decent defense without the rim protection offered by a shot blocker. Playing Nash for 30 minutes only compounds that issue.
I hope I'm wrong but we will be pretty bad this season, our offense is not going to solve things by its own.

You can't use some off balance pre season run to judge him. NBA players are rhythm players, and minutes aren't in rhythm in pre season until maybe games 7 and 8. Nash will be fine.

Also, he was clearly looking to get other guys involved (even more so than he normally does). Nash knows that at this point, it's about seeing which guys are suited to make the roster.
