Pairing Kobe with two drug cheats and one sex addict was probably a poor choice for that article's opening statement.

I just believe its more of the classic media case. You build up an up and coming young talent to a certain point.. Then once that gets old the media will do the opposite, break them down and depict all negative aspects of that athletes career. It maybe true that ARod and Tiger (you could relate Kobe to Tiger in some aspects) but both of those guys were also faces of their respective sports at one time also

Jed Rigney wrote:The rumors are that one of the reasons Dwight Howard chose to leave the Lakers was because of Kobe. This makes sense, because why would Dwight want to play with someone whose sole purpose is winning a title? That's a lot of pressure.

Can NASA launch this guy into the **** Sun and televise it?

IMO it's because of some of his extreme fans. I'd bet Kobe has the most real-life "Stans" out of any player in the league. I have to admit it does get kind of annoying to read their posts, not necessarily on this site but on sites like facebook, twitter, some Lakers sites. Fans that are convinced he's the best player of all time, that he's still the best player in the league right now, etc. I'm a huge Kobe fan, probably bigger than most, but it's easy to see how the extremists get on people's nerves.

It has more to do with recency bias than anything else. Most of the fans on this board didn't really get to watch Kobe at his best, and now that they've been able to see LeBron and Durant at their best it leads them to believe that Kobe is overrated.

It's the nature of fans though. They jump on the latest, greatest thing. Most hardcore fans know better though, but RealGM is littered with homers/haters so thorough player analysis is often neglected.

Me personally.. I've been a Laker fan since 1985 and was breaded into this purple n gold life by my mother and grandfather(R.I.P) who're HUGE Laker fans. And I started out HATING Kobe Bryant. Because he was so cocky and essentially started out the process to get rid of Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel. Until he was willing to shoot those air ball shots against Utah in that playoff series. I remember the game like it was YESTERDAY. Robert Horry hadn't missed a single 3 pointer all game long and Nick Van Exel was on fire and at that time we kept giving the ball to a young bald headed Kobe. I think it was his reaction to missing the shots that really stuck me because you could tell the dude literately was broken because he not only let the fans and team down.... But because he let himself down. I've seen the guy at his absolute best and at his lowest moments in his career. I got to experience Magic Johnson also and maybe because I was able see someone who damn near was idolized throughout the city on top of his game and life and then his lowest point (HIV) causing his first retirement. Then to witness Magic getting old with my own two eyes and unable to keep up with the up an coming Portland Trailblazers (We BARELY eeked out that playoff series in 1991) it helped me know that time would come for Kobe.

But much like Magic...Kobe has a high skill level and always took care of his body so I'd knew his game would age gracefully. The guy isn't perfect...But no one player ever will be but man he's brought this franchise ALOT more positive results than bad. And no one won more rings then Kobe Bryant from 2000-2010. To me he was the face of that generation. I just feel for the ending of this Kobe/Pau chapter of Lakers history we should put a LEGIT product on the court that can maximize the talent that we still have on this roster. Because once both of those guys are gone this era of Laker basketball will be OFFICIALLY over. And thats no more than an additional 3 years here to hopefully nab a top tier free agent or 2 and try to get another ring

You hit it right on the nail bro. I have great respect for Kobe but his fans or stans just irritate the hell out of me. Respect to Kobe and everything about the history of LAL.

As a non Laker fan this would be it for me. His stans on twitter/facebook are absolutely unbearable.

I've always felt that kind of thinking was a cop-out, its just like me saying I don't like Justin Bieber because of his annoying teenage fans. If you don't like the guy you just don't like him, that way of thinking is comparable to jealously.

A celebrity has little to no control over their fan-base hating someone because of that is just petty.

i think its more that his fans are so sensitive that they think anyone that has the audacity to bring up a short coming of his must have an agenda against him. having been on rgm over the yrs has made it clear to me that no one comes close to being as sensitive as kobe fans are.

There's no such thing as just being just a Kobe fan or a Lakers fan. Why people act like their separate things baffles me. They're the same EXACT thing. Now if you want to say bandwagon Lakers fans who hopped on the bandwagon when we were winning rings gave us an overall bad rep then I can understand that. Most of you couldn't have been around when Bird and Magic played because that was on a whole notha level stateside with the idolization of those 2 players.

Just appreciate these last couple of seasons of Bean and stop trying to create the perfect NBA2k "Created player" I tend to appreciate the type of guy who been one of the faces of this franchise for over a decade and always leaves it on the court regardless of the result

oh there's a big distinction between kobe fans and lakers fans, kobe fans have no issue throwing anyone and everyone on the team under the bus in order to protect kobe.

I'll also add that Kobe-only fans seem to think that if "X player" is better than Kobe, it automatically means Kobe sucks. In reality, all it demonstrates is how good the other player is, not how bad Kobe is. It's actually possible for Kobe to be a really great player, AND for another player to be better than he is. I know this is a hackneyed example, but LeBron or MJ for instance. It is no disrespect to Kobe's greatness for the handful of players considered better than him to be some of the very best to ever play. Kobe's incredibly good, but some players have been incredibly, incredibly good. To be edged out by them is not a diss, but I feel like his most fanatic fans take it that way.

Also, like it or not but a celebrity's fans (I'm including sports players in the "celebrity" category) have a huge impact on how they are perceived. I think it's understandable and not unreasonable to not like a player because of their followers. For instance, I don't like LeBron because his diehard fans on this site annoy the hell out of me. I respect his game and his place in history, however.
