I think reality is setting in a bit for Kobe... His last few quotes have sounded a little frustrated...
I get the sense that he's coming to terms with some limitations that the injury represents... It'll be interesting to see how he comes back, but I got a feeling he's a long way from being in competitive form.
I hope I'm wrong and I think optimism is the right emotion, but I think we might need to temper our expectations a little...
For me that means that I'm not expecting a huge turnaround from this fun but disjointed team when Kobe comes back... I think we'll improve some, but if we're not in the playoff hunt before he comes back, I'm not betting on being in the thick of it after.

The main reason I believe Kobe can comeback and still ball out from this injury is how skilled a player he is. His back to the basket game is 2nd to none. So Bean really doesnt have to rely to much on his athleticism. But the issue comes in what this franchise really needs from Kobe going forward with this last chapter of his career. We're gonna essentially need him to become an Point-Forward during this last chapter. But then thats predicated on our front office bringing in another 26ppg scorer who can take over the scoring load. Kobe is probably 1 of no more than 5 players in the whole NBA who can dominate the game with his passing just as much as his scoring (at this stage of his career) but its gonna come down to the type of roster we field around him also

Hopefully he plays in Detroit at the end of the month. Got tickets for the game.

I have no doubt he can adjust to whatever limitations he has and still have a huge if not superstar level impact on the court... But it'll be a learning process for him. And I think it's unreasonable to expect him to complete that process this season.

I honestly think he does need his athleticism still. We've seen what happens when Kobe's legs get worn out, his lack of elevation on his jumper really hurts him when he can't blow by his guy anymore. I'm thinking of 2011 playoffs round 2, when he took like 2 FT's over three games.

Kobe needs to be smart about his return, nothing to prove right now just get healthy.

Yeah that kid is legit been following him for over a year now. Seems he has a family member with ties to NBA players for some reason (maybe agent). He's been a hit and miss on some things

Kobe says he's completed almost one week of solid conditioning. He's said he'll need three before returning. Still no official date yet, tho

im more concern about him going in the post and missing a fadeaway and having to run back on D. its goona suck having to see his laboring face reaction.

Kobe knows his body best. But I just wish he wouldn't get his strength conditioning in game this time around. I'd rather see him jumping off that left leg and dunking a month before he actually comes back.

Dude always battles back from injury and comes back earlier than we expect. With his knee surgeries it's been pretty scary. With this Achilles injury an ankle sprain could happen at any time compared to a knee sprain, so I just hope he stays more cautious this time around. His ruggedness to play through injury after injury could be his demise.

Really looking forward to seeing him play again. Going to be very interesting to see what kind of level hes at. Never doubt the Mamba!

I have a feeling that this is the year kobe finally averages 8-9 assists like some of us have been hoping for for decades. The team is there, the system is there, the coach is there, the pgs are not there.

I can understand him averaging more assists this year, but why would anyone have hoped he would average 8-9 for "decades"? It's unreasonable to expect those kind of assists numbers from a shooting guard, and even more unrealistic when you factor in the triangle offense.

OK the decades part was an exaggeration. But there have been many years that he averaged 26 or 27 and 5dimes I would have much rather seen him go for 20/10 simply by taking a few less double and triple teamed fade aways. And yes his listed position was SG, but does that really matter when he is handling the ball 90% of the time?

Why would you expect that? Scottie set the record at 7 assists and Kobe's averages are second to Scottie but bypass MJ easily, same with Luke and Lamar


And Kobe by Phil's admission was asked to be michael and Scottie as Michael wasn't forced to facilitate or defend primarily. Kobe's never had a premiere perimeter wing
