Good solid article and interview by Mark Stein

Some quotes from Dominique Wilkins

“Everybody said my career was done. ‘He’s done, stick a fork in him.’ I heard everything. They either said I wouldn’t come back, or if I did come back, there was no way I would ever be the same.

“If anybody can come back, Kobe can,” Wilkins says. “And I’ll tell you why I say that: He’s one of the most competitive guys that I’ve ever met. He’s one of those guys that competes on a level like Jordan, Bird and Magic. He has that type of tenacity, that type of attitude, where he’s not going to let anybody tell him what he can’t do. It all depends on the person, how determined and how dedicated you are on working and training to get it back the way it was.

“I don’t care how advanced the medicine gets,” Wilkins said. “It depends on the person and how determined they are to be the same."

Wilkins, though, does acknowledge that Bryant is going to have to work through some initial fears (“I was nervous at first”) and “develop some patience,” more than he’s ever had before, because Nique remembers needing “close to a year before you feel you can play on a level you once played.”

Some quotes from Isiah:

“Devastating is the correct word. It is a devastating injury. Had I come back and played, I’m sure it would have affected my speed, jumping ability, quickness and so forth and so on. I was older, so I had lost some of that anyway.

“But I would never bet against Kobe. Because what Kobe still has that I didn’t have at the end of my career is that hunger. When you listen to Kobe talk ... you still hear and see a hunger that, frankly, I just didn’t have at that point.”

Interesting to read the quotes from 2 of the all time greatest who had the same injury. One decided to continue his career because of the doubters and the other decided to retire because he didnt have the hungier anymore to play in the NBA. Interesting how Wilkins points out Kobe needing to be patient in his rehab. Think this was the biggest understanding the Lakers F.O. and Kobe had to realize when they initially were pushing for season opener.

I hope he becomes the facilitator and pass the a lot more. To my knowledge last year was the most triple doubles he has had in 1 season? < I could be wrong though. But if that's the case that's what I want Kobe to come back as and lead the league in Assists < how good would that be? More then likely though he will try and score I think

Rodman was drunk as hell wasn't he...

Kobe still has a long way back... And I frankly don't expect it to be a smooth road. I think all sides are going to have to make adjustments, including us.
That said, I think he'll still be an all-star... He does need to get more fundamentally sound on D though.

Remember Jerry West on the radio challenging Kobe to do that 1 season

ehhh not sure what that challenge will prove, if he doesnt lead the league in assist the analyst will just say..."hes a scorer! let him do what he does best" "kobe dont have the mindset to pass first mentality" "the score first mentality lead him to 5 rings"

then the age thing will come up saying he needs to do less with the mileage he has and if he wants another ring he will have to rely on his mates...same ol same ol

Javier Zanetti, captain of Inter Milan tore his achilles after Kobe and made a comeback yesterday. Looked pretty damn good too and he's 40 years old.

But difference is he doesnt have to carry a franchise and team like Kobe will need to. I'm starting to come around on even holding Bean out this season. But I already know unless they force him to he'll never do it. Biggest reason probably being he'll need to show management the type of level he can play at this last chapter of his career. Mainly for contract negotiation reasons

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan
Mild Kobe progress. Is he still shooting "tippy-toe" set shots? D'Antoni: "Tippy-toe? That's cute. Maybe a little bit more than tippy-toe."

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan
Graduation from tippy-toe shots or not, Kobe still hasn't been cleared to practice and there isn't a timetable for his return

:(

WTF???

We heard all summer how ahead of schedule he is and to bank on him returning from Day one.....now it seems he'll barely crack the latter timetable of his return which is 9 months(6-9 months they said)

I'm starting to think we're doing the t word

BTW:Rondo has been doing some light practices and even playing 3 on 3's ...and he's not expected back for as much as a month or even more

Kobe's not even doing latteral cuts or stuff like that(this was the case last week)...only sprinting back and forth
