Lakers looking for another PG

Post#1 » by TruSkool » Wed Dec 4, 2013 6:02 pm

With all 3 of the PG's injured, the Lakers are looking to add depth in that position....

Recently saw Goudelock play in a Eurocup game....he's basically Kobe for his team, closing the game with some ridiculous shots

Would have been nice to have him, even though he's not a traditional PG

I really don't want us to pick up some scrub out of the ether to be our starting or even our chief backup PG.

I'd rather run with X until kobe comes back and then he can be primary distributor until Blake Nash or Farmar comes back.

X will make the ball stagnant just like kobe does. This laker team is best when the ball moves around. X will look more to bring the ball up and attack...but lakers need someone pesty who can run around with the ball and is excellent at the "drive n dish"...blake was good at that, nash was good at that but X isnt the answer when the floor is spread.

the only scrub names that pop to mind that are available are darius morris and jamaal tinsley.
They might also want to take a look at gilbert arenas and sasha vujacic although they arent great passers.

I wouldn't mind giving a non-guaranteed contract for Lester Hudson or Josh Selby, they played on the summer league roster and will be familiar with the offense. Ideally DJO would have been awesome but he's in China now.

Yeah, but the problem is, bringing in a floor general mid season with no training camp is rarely very successful. Especially a floor general with one foot out the league. So what do we loose in waiting...

Knowing Mike, he'd find a Lin out of a dumpster drive. We just need someone to warm the bench while all 3 of our PGs are injured though.

That's true, he is a PG coach... Maybe he could turn around the career of a has been or a never been. But could you imagine if he could turn 6'6" Henry into a viable PG for us?

Blake's hurt now? Seems like he gets hurt at least once a year.

Kendall Marshall? I mean dude was a lottery pick just last year, we already have a farm of bust in Henry & Wes who has worked out thus far.

I wouldn't mind him especially with MDA & Nash around. He is laterally slow and defensively unaware, has a bad shot but he can run an offense and find open slashers like Wes Johnson all game long.

It appears Kobe's already playing pg in practice. And he was averaging double digit assists for a few weeks last season playing the point. Gotta just get Meeks to pick up the opposing PG. Seems like a pretty sensible solution.

Meeks did run some point during his run with the Sixers but you're taking away (somehow) his spot up game. yeah he can just bring the ball down and find a way to get it back but the Lakers need someone who can penetrate and create for himself and others as well.

I wouldn't mind X handling the PG duties. he has a decent outside game and is a strong finisher. I think he can learn to adjust his passing as time progresses. as long as he is in attack mode, 70% of the time he will score or go to the line, 20% turn it over, and 10% pass it to someone.

made up the odds but I like it.

What about a trade after 12/15? Maybe Meeks/Kaman for Shved/Cunningham?

Meeks ran point with the Sixers? How does a guy who has terrible ballhandling and passing skills, somebody who keeps his head down play point guard? I'm trying to think of guards who are worse than him, I can't think of any. He's only one kind of player on offense, and that's catch-and-shoot. You don't put the ball in his hands, he's always been terrible as a playmaker.

But Kobe can play PG on offense, and Meeks can match up defensively against opposing PG's, so we can get away with it I think. I like X in this role too, playing defense against opposing PG's and bullying them on offense. No way X plays PG with Kobe on the floor.

If Kobe is on the floor, he's going to be making plays. There's nobody else on our roster you can run your offense through (at least nobody who's healthy).

I think X could make a better PG than most people think, before the season started he was just some scrub that nobody thought would be any good but look at him now, plus like some people have said Mike D is a PG coach so if anyone can turn him into one Mike can, plus he would make us pretty damn big...
