Lakers inquire about Kyle Lowry

• In addition to the Lakers, Knicks and Nets, the Timberwolves, Warriors and Celtics are among the teams that have inquired about a deal with the Raptors for Lowry, league sources say.

Things can always change in Lakerland, but for now, the team intends to keep Pau Gasol and ride it out with the group it has. In fact, league sources say the Lakers lodged an inquiry with Toronto about a deal for Kyle Lowry to stabilize their injury-ravaged point guard position. The talks didn't go anywhere. Nonetheless, with Kobe Bryant trying to come back from a second significant injury in eight months, the incentive – and temptation – to dump salary and avert a date with the dreaded repeater tax will remain. Especially if LA remains on the outside of the playoff chase in the West.

With the Lakers having cooled on the idea of a Gasol-for-Andrew Bynum swap, the Cavs are now exploring other ways to end their experiment with the 7-footer before his $12.25 million salary for this season becomes fully guaranteed on Tuesday.

Lowry is pretty good. I don't really want him to leave the Raps, but I'd be far more okay with it if he came to the Lakers than if he went to NY or something. He's a little bull.

You'd have to ask Phoenix for that.

Can't do it. It's not tradeable I believe due to consecutive trade of draft picks previously.

First, we can't do that. We traded too many picks. Second, we can go after him in free agency.

We can trade our pick after selecting a player at the day of the draft (correct me if I'm wrong).

This is what I meant by having extra assets aside from our cap space in the off season.

We don't need to get a top 3 pick or even a top 10 pick. Even if we end up around 13-15th in the draft, a lot of teams would still be interested in it because it's a good draft class.

Quietly seeing what they could get for Gasol on the market so they'll know his value come deadline time.

You can't trade back to back 1st round picks. We already surrendered our 2013 last draft.

Raptors fan here. How desperate are the Lakers in wanting to offload Nash's salary?

What about Nash + Sacre + the right to swap 2014 1st round picks for Vasquez + Salmons.

Vasquez gives you a startable PG who is not guaranteed any money for next year but has a qualifying offer if you like what you see. Salmons can be waived for only 1 million guaranteed of his 7 million next year. The trade cannot happen until near the deadline when Vasquez and Salmons can be traded as a package.

Would the right to swap 1st round picks (probably dropping from around 12 to 18) be fair value for clearing 10.5 million guaranteed for only 1 million guaranteed so the Lakers can be a bigger player in free agency (and possibly steal Lowry from the Raptors).

Doubt there is any chance the 2014 pick will be discussed in any way, so no. Also, crazy as it sounds, I don't think the FO will move Sacre in any deal. He is signed for next year, cheap, works hard, and gives us viable big man minutes. In any case, if Nash isn't healthy, he may be granted a medical retirement. If he is healthy, he probably won't be moved.

If you offer a deal for the 2014 pick again, I'll ban you!

Lowry is a decent player but no, not worth getting him.

I say we wait until 2015 to make a splash in free agency.

Love
Rondo
Aldridge

Wouldn't mind that, would be a dream :)

But doubt we will wait another season, I think it';s all about 2014 NOT 2015 then again you never know

indeed a dream but this offseason should just be about the draft, not going for max free agents. I hope we cut Nash and trade Gasol. No big splash can be made this offseason. the only players I wanted to try for are already gone, but then again George and Cousins were a major long shot.

Love is a nice player to have as long as he has the right pieces around him. Rondo and defensive big with good hands and a bunch of 3 point shooters...lol quick fix team

Love is what we should be targeting since he's the most likely to come to LA. Get him in 2015, keep cap space for the greatest free agency year since 2010 in 2016 when Durant, Westbrook and a ton of other good players are available.
