Great article about Marshall's play below.
http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/lak ... the-lakersAlso since this season has been rather dismal, I would like to dedicate this thread to Kendall Marshall. Feel free to post all love, hate, Marshall player comparisons in this thread. I am telling you he is a gem. I watched him at UNC and never understood why he didn't pan out the way I thought in Phoenix. But I think he has a found home in LA.
Marshall's passing ability is similar to young Nash in his early Phoenix and Dallas days.
Marshall's movement and IQ does remind me of Andre Miller somewhat. Doesn't provide the scoring that Miller did in his early days and today.
I say best ceiling - Steve Nash
Realistic ceiling- Andre Miller
Worst Case Scenario- Ramon Sessions/ Eric Minor

Very impressed with this kid. The only PG on our roster and he accepted the challenge and exceeded expectation.
Regardless if he had one good game or not it takes skills and IQ to get 20/15. And he did it with what only 4 days of actually knowing the plays? That's quite impressive.

Jesus! I love me a bit of marshall madness but Utah is the worst defensive team at pg. marshall won't find that kind of time and space even in the d-league to pick and choose his passes again.

D'Antoni's system is known to inflate PG's stats, but it's becoming more obvious that Marshall is better than Blake and possibly Nash, because he can actually walk unlike Nash. Marshall was a lottery pick less than 2 years ago, and hasn't really gotten a chance in the league yet. I would definitely re-sign him in the offseason.

Even though D'Antoni's system does inflate pg stats, Marshall did start 3 games for Phoenix last year and had 13, 10 and 14 assists in those three games, so in his 4 nba starts, he is averaging 13 assists. Not bad.

He was a great passer in college as he averaged almost 8 assists a game, which is a lot in college if you factor in the low amount of possessions and slower pace. What surprises me most so far is his shooting and scoring, because I thought he was supposed to stink at both. His shot form is horrific, but it's working so far.
We'll have to see how he plays against better defense though.

Yeah, he shot 37% last year, but I think part of it is becoming used to shooting. He didn't shoot much in college and he'd rather pass, so he never had much confidence shooting it last year. He looked more confident with his shot last night, and I'm sure he's been working on his shot quite a bit as well as his mental approach to shooting it or taking it to the hoop when defenders back off instead of still passing it.

His shooting form can't be any worse than Tayshawn Prince, but we all know how many times Prince's shot went in during the Finals against us.

He looks comfortable out there, which is huge imo. He is picking and choosing his spots carefully and directing the offense well these past couple games.
As long as he keeps working hard on his shooting/scoring we should try to retain him for at least a role off the bench.
And I agree with OP on the Andre Miller comparison, not the scorer that miller is but both can run an offense. And look at how long Miller has been in the league.

His shot from five feet behind the three point line looks so easy. If he has that down and can hit it consistently he may be adding another dimension to the NBA. I mean if you lay off of him he can kill you, if you play him close he can go around you, drive and kick. I bet D'Antoni must have had wet dreams last night.

he looked slow but keeps up with his man. not surprised with his offense since it was against the Jazz. let's see him first go against top caliber PGs and teams.
regardless, he's needed in this team considering he's the only true PG.

I'm calling him Slim Shady, because in this Lakers team, Marshall Matters.
