Lakers a Logical Fit for Trade Candidate Ben Gordon

Earlier in the week, Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld reported that the Bobcats, expected to be buyers at the trade deadline, are shopping Ben Gordon and his expiring contract in an effort to land a player who could help the team win now.

The most logical fits for Gordon are teams without playoff aspirations looking to create future cap flexibility. For a club like that, sending out a productive player on a multiyear contract would allow for more cap space this July, and depending on the player, could earn them an extra asset or two from Charlotte. It would also reduce the talent on this season’s roster, allowing the team to land a higher spot in the 2014 draft lottery.

So which teams might fit that bill and be a fit for a Gordon deal? Here are a few ideas:

Los Angeles Lakers:
Multiple reports have suggested that the Lakers’ asking price for Pau Gasol remains too high, but if the Bobcats were willing to come close to that price, perhaps there’d be a match. A package such as Gordon, Jannero Pargo, Anthony Tolliver, and a first-round pick for Gasol would work under CBA rules, reduce the Lakers’ tax bill, and allow them to pick up an asset without taking on any multiyear contracts. There are issues with my proposal, of course, such as whether the Bobcats would part with a first-rounder for Pau, or whether the Lakers would want to waive anyone to make it work. Still, it’d at least be a starting point.

I mentioned a trade like this right when the season started....Charlotte could use Gasol because they actually want to make the playoffs and I believe Gordon's contract is finished after this year.

Gordon, for some reason, would also be one of D'Antoni's favorite players ever.

Do it fast Mitch. Imagine if Bobcats fail to make PO, Kendall-Kobe-Wigginz-Love-Embiid

Why would Pau want to resign with the Hornets after this season? Big gamble for them.

Isn't the Bobcats pick owed to the Bulls this year?

Why would Jordan pick this draft of all drafts to sit out the lottery? How is that a good long-term strategy

The one from Det is top 8 protected, FYI The one from Portland is 1-12 protected.

I'm beginning to think some franchises have given up on themselves. Making the playoffs is practically an NBA Championship for them.

I am all for trading for an impact player and building chemistry for next year like Rondo. Trade Pau for Rondo. Have Rondo develop chemistry. Start Kaman. Trade Nash. Sign Deng in the off-season. Fire MDA and beg Phil to come back. Roll with Rondo, Kobe, Deng, Hill, Kaman next year. I am not for the draft unless we are guarenteed a top 5 pick. I do not believe the hype of this draft unless we are getting Parker.

as much as a lottery pick for pau sounds fantastical, you got to be realistic

charlotte wont feel too bad if they use the portland pick, not like theyre landing in the lottery anytime soon and a late 1st round pick for pau looks like a dream score for the lakers

I'd take the POR pick if that's the best offer at the deadline, more assets.

You're not for the draft, but you think we can trade Pau for Rondo....

That, and what are we going to do with that team ?

Am I the only one that thinks Rondo would not be a great fit for the Lakers ? I mean, Kobe is a ball dominant player, as well as Rondo, but the thing is, Kobe had D-Fish almost his entire career who could knock down the 3 (heck, even Smush shot 36% from 3), and Rondo can't really do that. The spacing would be awful, especially on that Rondo-Kobe-Deng, a player that we may, or may not sign (or overpay)-Hill-Kaman team...

its easy to be against the draft when you live in a dream world where you can trade pau for rondo. i've also seen pau for love around here :o
