http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-magic-johnson-lakers-20140115,0,2446795.story#axzz2qWFjE7tI“This is what happens when you make the wrong decisions, two coaching wrong decisions, giving Steve Nash that deal, it’s backfired,” Johnson said during a meeting at The Times between Dodgers officials and Times writers and editors. Johnson is a part owner of the Dodgers.
“The biggest problem they’re going to have right now … you’ve got to get a guy like Jerry West to be the face of the team. ...
“You’ve got to have someone helping Jim. He’s got to quit trying to prove a point to everybody that he can do it on his own, get his ego out of it, and just say, ‘Let me get someone beside me to help achieve the goals I want.' "
Johnson acknowledged that getting West to return would be difficult, but added that having an empowered person in the general manager's role is critical. “You need to get someone like Jerry to be the face, so agents are comfortable, players are comfortable, knowing the Lakers are going for a championship….
“Look what Pat Riley did in Miami,” referring to the former Lakers coach who assembled the current team featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
“If Pat Riley’s not there, you don’t get LeBron to buy in.”

Let's get rid of Jim Buss and put Magic as the face of the franchise... is basically what I'm reading.

Magic is speaking the truth though. Jim does need help.

You have to admit he has a few valid point. Specially when it comes to Steve Nash. Specially Mitch not grabbing his.cahonez and putting Jim in his place on running this team as it should be ran.

Exactly. After getting Nash and Howard he was praising Jim and Mitch like no one.

Were you there? Did you physically see it happen? Was it like a french kiss or a butter fly kiss. Oh and did he leave any hickys?

I don't think he is ruining his image. I don't see why everyone has an issue with people who change their stance. We all change our minds constantly. You never had a situation where you said one thing then realized you were wrong or that you spoke to soon? Magic is more passionate about the lakers than any of us. He often thinks with his emotions instead of his brain. We all do this. The man loves the lakers.

You all are a bunch effin' dummies, criticizing Magic.
Nash comment aside, he's right on.
Buss made two bad coaching hires that changed the direction of this franchise.
More importantly, he's right about bringing in someone like Jerry West.
Aside from West's vast knowledge and experience, he would bring a stability and instant respect around this league.
I don't understand some of you all at all. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I was going to say the same thing when I read that piece. I'm sure if we went back to Magic's twitter after we signed Nash he was saying good things about him.

Your point is? If we tracked all of your tweets, facebook messages, or personal conversations we wouldn't find any contradictions or things that you either regret saying or spoke too soon on?

Seriously guys who cares what he said before what he is currently saying has merit.

My point is that he is annoying because he contradicts himself all the time. First he is kissing ass and when something goes wrong he backs away and acts as if he never thought it was a good idea. He did the same thing with Dwight.

I see your point and respect your opinion. I just think his contradictions tend to be the result of his love and passion for this team. He really wants to see this team win. I am not saying that he doesn't tends to jump the gun a lot. But what he is saying this time around is very real and true. Their is a good chance that this franchise may never be the same again unfortunately. We need to really repair the image of this franchise around the league so we can attract free agents. Their is a good chance that we could be screwed for years to come. We can blame Kobe all we want but getting rid of Kobe I think hurts us more. So many elite players love/respect Kobe which is quite shocking. I really think Jim is a HUGE issue. Jim was likely the one that signed and sealed that contract Kobe got. We have a huge issue on our hands and our team may be in trouble. Mitch is great. But he doesn't have any power right now. Nor does MDA. Jim is running this ship into the ground.

I do agree that the image of the Lakers has gotten worse under Jim Buss. Major media outlets such as ESPN take shots at Jim Buss from time to time and this was never the case while Jerry Buss was in charge at least not towards the end of lifetime. I do disagree with the notion that the Lakers will be hurting after Kobe leaves. I actually think it breathes new life into the Lakers and allows them to go in a new direction.
While Kobe is respected around the league I don't think it always translates to wanting to play alongside the guy. You saw how Dwight came in and basically resented Kobe. A lot of the guys around the league have this attitude as many of them are divas. Sure Carmelo respects Kobe and would love to play alongside him but is Carmelo really the guys that is going to lead the change of this franchise? Our options are very limited as we can't rebuild through the draft because of how many picks we have traded away. I don't think the Lakers will remain a bad team for very long, I just think we have to be patient until the next two summers to really get a sense of what direction this team is headed in.

Jim Buss does need a stud like Jerry West.
Or how about the brother in law Phil.
Jim just doesn't cut in and 90% of the Lakers fans are disappointed now.
Tanking and getting Joseph Embiid instead of signing Howard will bring redemption
for losing Howard.
But what about the Kobe signing. Are we just tanking for the next two seasons? Or using
Kobe to sell tickets. Should've let him sign for 10 mil or let him walk to Brooklyn where he fits
in better.
