Lakers Tank Discussion

Post#1 » by Pierre The Poet » Mon Feb 10, 2014 2:32 am

Just figured we could have a place to come to talk about the other teams we're competing against for those lottery balls. As of right now, we have the 8th worst record. Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Utah, and Sacramento are worse than we are, but not by much. Milkwaukee looks impossible to catch, but if we can hit another one of those 6-7 game losing streaks, we can slip under a lot of those teams.

Wiggins? Embiid? Parker? Can we do it? It'll be hard, but it's fun to speculate.

Tonight Orlando beat Indiana and Cleveland beat Memphis. So that really helps us.

I'm not sure what to expect from this team...but I can tell you tanking will get tougher as more players return from injury. When Kobe returns, we still won't beat the good teams but we'll beat the bad teams who we'd probably lose to right now.

Top 3 seems unlikely. Right now my ideal pick is Exum at around 5 or 6.

Yeah, I'm worried about that. I haven't even thought about Kobe yet. I'm worried about Meeks, Young, Henry, and Farmar all coming back. Those guys played with some spirit early on, and they're capable of playing .500 basketball

I don't ever wanna wish an injury on a player, but I'll just say that if this injury stays consistent then there shouldn't be a problem.

We just have to keep losing. Striving for more wins at this point in the season can be deadly for this franchse...getting the 5th pick compared to the 10th or 11th is a huge difference maker...imagine if Portland drafted a couple of spots higher the year Lillard was drafted...they wouldn't be an elite team right now.

Like the year that David Robinson got hurt and they sucked and ended up with Duncan. Who knows where that franchise would be if that never happened.

I'm hoping for some trades that land us some picks. If we can unload guys like Pau, Hill and Kaman to teams in contention then that should make us weaker down the stretch. Nash is a shell of himself and Kobe this late into the season will be also(that could help). Farmar can't stay healthy and we still have a great tank of a coach. I
am optimistic! :)

We should be targeting the 4th pick if possible... That will out us in a position to get Exum... It would be nice to get another pick in the teens as there will be allot of taken there as well... Let the tank continue... A LOSS is a WIN...

What if we get a couple prospects at the deadline and blow up the tank? Just a random thought.

A couple games here or there doesn't mean that much. We still stink on ice. And there's still an element of luck...
I'm really curious what this team looks like on the 21st... It will mean a lot to our lotto hopes.

Boston vs. Milwaukee tonight. It's kind of a win-win but I'd rather just have Boston win since we aren't gonna be able to catch the Bucks anyways.

I don't see us acquiring any solid players at the deadline. Who would we trade for them? Teams don't even want Gasol for a late 1st rounder...why in the world would they give up a solid player. The Nash contract is horrible. Every other player is a fringe starter in a contract season.

In a perfect world, we would trade Nash to Toronto for Salmons and then waive Salmons when the season is over (his contract isn't guaranteed next year). Nash to Toronto would get the fans all giddy and their arena would sell out every game. It would also help the tank because Nash has the ability to play well against some soft teams.

Hopefully we draft a good player, but man...those Kobe and Nash contracts are killers next year.
