http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23 ... t-PriorityCarmelo Anthony said on Friday that his "first priority" is to re-sign with the New York Knicks in free agency.
Anthony will become an unrestricted free agent and has stated in the past that he wants to stay with the Knicks.
When asked whether he will consider taking less money from the Knicks to give the team extra salary flexibility, Anthony said, "Without a doubt."
The Knicks are 20-32 this season.

Meh... if Melo comes here I'd be ok with it but I'd rather develop the rookie and sign Love in 2015 instead

It's basically the deal that Bosh and Lebron signed without the sign and trade. They could have signed a 5 year deal for $96 Million. Averaging out to $19.2 Million but the new CBA stopped the previous S&T shenanigans, if Melo took that $77 Million deal he would average about $19.25 Million per which isn't bad.
I was joking but Melo has hinted at taking a pay cut before after his discussion with Lebron.

This news is quite awesome, really. I was convinced Jim Buss was stupid enough to trade them our great draft pick for him if he had the chance.

The Melo hate is unreal to me. Even if the guy doesnt come at worse he's a 5-7 rang player in the NBA today. Media and these computer geeks have ruined hoop. I doubt he comes personally but I'd welcome him with open arms in a heartbeat. George Karl was on ESPN radio recently and said Melo and Kobe believes could work unlike the most others think. If you can sign Melo for 16-18mill range I'm all for it. Anything more then I can understand most of your issues with it. But the player himself is a GREAT PLAYER and if it was for tail end of his prime Kobe in 2009 Melo would have won a ring already in his NBA career

Its not Melo hate, its just that a lot of people feel that if the lakers sign Melo to that max deal, thats it. Lakers are stuck paying that mammoth contract for a 2nd tier player with no other way to improve. If he's signing for 16 mil though, that a different story, but that doesn't sound at all realistic enough to even consider as a possibility.

I agree with this sentiment. If he takes a starting salary at 16M rather than 22M or 23M, it gives the Lakers flexibility to sign at least one other good player in 2014 (depending on the Nash situation) and then another in 2015. In such a scenario, if those other players provide interior and perimeter defense, and Kobe gets back to 75-80%, the team could probably make a run in 2015.

he is a player that DOES NOT make his teammates better whatsoever....some of the shots he jack's up in NY is god awful, pairing that with Kobe has disaster written all over it and by the time Kobe is done, Melo will be another 2years older and we're pretty much in the same spot we're in now, a somewhat declining star with a massive contract that will eat up nearly 40% of the cap.
