Like Mitch said getting below the apron was never a concern, so its pointless. Could have just kept Blake and retained some respectability but if Mitch wants to save $2 mil, he saves $2 mil.

The biggest lesson learnt is acquiring picks in the new CBA is nearly impossible.

yeah there is so much value now in picks, since the cba limits the ability of teams to really acquire star players through FA or trades. At this point it's going to turn into the NFL with the major difference is that one player has even far more pull on a teams success than a great QB. Lakers better strike gold in the draft or they may be bad for a long time.

I am sure the mods will relocate this post but the deal with the Suns is done & will be announced tomorrow... I am not going to quote sources or players outside of Pau & Okafor's contract as well as a late first round pick in 2014 but it is done... 2014 draft here we come...

Absolutely nothing except for the loss of Steve Blake which I am sort of depressed over. Four years of hard work and all he gets is to walk down the hallway to his car alone. No farewell party or anything. Not that they have these for trades but Blake was a true Laker. Not just visiting.
not sure what all this point is in saving a few bucks here and there when they got the Time warner deal that basically makes financial worries negligible or am I seeing it wrong?

What should have happened:

Kobe: I am not signing an extension until I see what the hell this team is doing! I want to stay and I plan on staying but yall need to figure something out.

Lakers: We do not want to talk extension until this off-season when we have a clear plan on rebuilding.After we get a plan we will revisit the extension.

Reality of now:

Kobe's contract hurts us. We are still over the tax and face repeater penalty with a subpar team. We will have cap space and a lottery pick. These are the few good things we have. Hopefully we make magic out of those beans!

Well I'm sure the intention was to get under the threshold via Hill or Kaman but it just didn't materialize. If it's not that big of a deal to them to be taxed I understand them holding out for picks because it still gives us an extra option or two at the end of the season. I get the feeling that if things worked out then they would pay the repeater tax for a championship run. Perhaps though they will keep Hill's rights and use that 4 mil in savings to pay for D'Antoni's contract when they axe him and keep Hill as a quality player.

I feel kind of similarly with Blake, but he's also getting to compete for a playoff run which I wish him luck on. Of any team I wouldn't mind seeing the dubs make a serious run.

Philly gave Lakers a verbal for Kaman for a 2nd than called Clipps & took Mullens... Kaman was notified... Mitch is pissed at Philly... Let's go 5 & 25 & call it a year...

Man you should of stayed away from this thread. You are going to get it. All you had to say was "I am hearing that it COULD be done". Shelborne, Stein, etc all didn't hear anything regarding this trade going down. Wondering who your sources are? Hoping your source has something legit in the off-season.
