But would Exum go so far as to try to angle his way onto the Lakers, who currently have the fifth-worst record in the NBA? That's the concern among some front-office executives around the league.
“When you hear some of what he says, it does make you wonder how the process is going to go as far as workouts and that sort of thing,” one general manager told Sporting News. “We have seen this story before, of course. I am not sure a player can have that kind of control, though.”
Me personally its Wiggins (best complete player in this draft) or Parker (best scorer) and MAYBE Embiid (he's still a project IMO).... Anything after that I'm trying to convince the Cavs to take this pick for Kyrie Irving if possible. Idk about Exum's game. He reminds me of throwback Penny Hardaway without the handle and not nearly as athletic. Maybe those are areas he can get better at but with the athleticism the game has at this level right now he could struggle guarding his position. Doesnt seem to have the lateral quickness either. They're too many question marks to be fully confident he can be a franchise star here in L.A. The signs point to us using our draft pick on him though.

The more footage I see on Exum, the more I start to like him. Dude is insanely athletic, long, and can make plays on offense.
If the Lakers were to hypothetically get the #1 pick, I would consider trading it for the 4th overall pick + another solid piece from that team.

Now that is a good idea dropping down and still getting a top 7 pick and a solid piece with it if Rob Pelinka and Exum would threaten to keep him overseas. But watch a team still draft him anyway lol

This guy is athletic and has amazing handles. Scouts say his only weakness is shooting the 3. Dude is impressive. I'd draft him in a heartbeat.

IMO, the top 4 prospects are Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, and Exum in that order. I think Wiggins and Exum have the most potential, but both would be risks to draft over Embiid and Parker, who are proving that they can help a team right off the bat.
If the Lakers were to trade for the 4th pick and a team in the top 3 drafted Exum, I would be fine with drafting one of the other three players. The extra player added in the deal could be important, too. For example, trading the 1st pick to the Magic for the 4th pick + Tobias Harris.

if he really wants to force his way to LA then he should head to Europe let the Lakers draft someone else and then come back after a year to play for us. Is this possible at all?

Yes, it's possible, especially because we might have a ton of cap space in 2015 if Carmelo doesn't sign this year. We could offer him the same amount of $ he would have made if he entered the draft.

please dear God let Melo stay with the Knicks.... I see him fitting in with either of Parker, Wiggins or Embiid

And even then he's not a terrible 3 pnt shooter either. Probably a low to mid 30s 3 point shooter.

Bet it was the Suns GM whining about this non-story. That's what those cats in Phoenix do.

He's too young for that, he'd have to be 22 to become a rookie free agent.

Reminds me of a young Kobe the way he gets into a triple threat position immediately after receiving the ball. The guy is going to play SG in the NBA while doing a lot of playmaking from the post and off the dribble. I'd have no hesitancy picking him 4th.
I hope they scout him well because that competition looks piss poor.

Oh boy Tobias Harris would be a solid pick up.

also if someone decides to draft him anyway, the team retains his draft rights until his contract ends with the non-NBA team, then the team again has a calendar year to sign him to a rookie scale.
in effect, preventing draftees from forcing their way to the team of their choice and threatening to play in europe or any other non-NBA team as the team that drafted him retains his rights.

Makes the tank not as critical to be top 3 if true but I still want one of the 3 big chips.

Dude is long, quick, good defender & has a high basketball IQ... I think the draft will go Parker, Embid than Wiggins... 4th pick should be high enough to secure Exum... Tankathon Baby...

I don't think any rookie is forcing their way to a certain team in this day and age. Out of the top 4 prospects mentioned in this thread, Exum and Parker are my least favorite but its not like I think we shouldn't draft either one of them if they are available at the 4 spot. It's hard for me to buy into the Exum hype because he plays against weak competition in Australia and a few games during the summer aren't enough for me to get too excited about him.
I remember reading somewhere that he could have started school in December but chose not to. I can't say I blame him because he wouldn't have a preseason to get comfortable on a new team in different style of play and if he played poorly then his stock would plummet. The fact that he is such an unknown prospect gives me all the reason in the world to not take him over Emiid, Parker, and Wiggins.

Exum played at the Nike Hoop Summit against all the prospects that are being discussed here today. He was ranked 3rd in the Nike Hoop Summit and his World Team beat Team USA with him being the high performer. He has played against good competition...
