Steve Nash Likely To Return To Lakers In 14-15

With the Los Angeles Lakers unlikely to use their 2014 cap space on a max contract player to save it for the 2015 edition, they are unlikely to use the stretch provision to waive Steve Nash.

Nash is due $9.7 million in the 14-15 season, which the Lakers could spread out evenly over the next three seasons.

Taking the hit in one season while allowing Nash to see if he can get healthy is the logical move given the Lakers' circumstances.

Nash was asked about the Lakers' likely decision to keep him on Tuesday.

“Yeah, it sounds like it,” said Nash.

Nash intends to retire if the Lakers decide to waive him though.

“That would be it,” he said. “I’ll either be back here or I’ll be done.”

Most likely this was going to happen. If we get Exum he could mentor him or Marshall etc

Still say Nash is here to get us Wiggins...

Regardless though, I'm glad he'll be back and I hope he can tear it up...
His contract doesn't really matter to us next year anyway.

At this point I just want to see Kobe and Nash play together.

Agreed. When healthy Nash is an effective player. Although the trade that got him here cost us a lot, when he does play I do enjoy watching him. It's hard to put down an old dog that has so much heart and at times shows a lot of life. If he can truly somehow get back to what he was (19 point game -40 year old gmae) before he got hurt again I would love for him to be our 6th man off the bench. I don't expect him to score 19 a game but I would love 9-10 points and 7 assists as the 6th man next year. However, if he is truly done he should accept it and retire in the off-season if he really can't go anymore.

The thing I'm most curious about is if we can turn him into a coach/assistant or front office guy for us after his playing career is over. If we can, it will be totally worth the 3 years, by all accounts he is smart, talented, has a keen eye for the game and very humble. You need to retain those guys in key roles by all means.

I'd rather he came back then him give us the cap space and we somehow land Melo and build a mediocre team around him.

Nash is done... We may get a few games out of him but nerve damage is tough to overcome... He will most likely be on the team given our financial game plan... I wish he had a little more left in the tank... His pick & roll game is fun to watch... Tankathon...

/\ The Tank will be shut down after this season since we do not have a pick next year!

Crud! Now we won't be able to build a contender next year.

This is just tells me the lakers are gona go really hard after kevin love when these big contracts expire.
Next comes Pau. Lakers will lowball the hell out of him and he'll walk. Probably to chicago or maybe back to memphis.

I wish we could have seen the full potential of a roster with a a healthy Kobe, Pau & Nash. I still strongly believe they would've torn it up in the NBA if given time to gel together and remain healthy. Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but either way, that would've been a sight to see.
I'm also hoping the Lakers don't waive Nash. He deserves to retire with some dignity.

It's all about next years free agency... That being said, I think there are some decent pieces out there for us this offseason... I would love to get Thabo... He plays great defense and is a team player...

I wish I could believe you.

IMHO I seriously do but lets be honest here if it comes down to coach/assistant coach or taking a front office role or any position offered between the Lakers and the Suns who do you think he will choose?

His loyalty is to Phoenix always has and always will be. They are loaded with youth, up and coming talent and me personally think that's where he is headed once he is done in LA.

He wants to stay in LA and not uproot and move his family again. His kids go to school in LA. Its either the Lakers or Clippers for him if he wants to stay in the league.

Huh?? Last I recalled he was in court trying to block their move to LA and he won. He claimed LA wasn't a good place to raise kids.

But I just checked and found out his ex wife did move anyways. Didn't know that. But I guess will have to wait and see what happens after his contract ends.
