Steve Nash: "I'm sorry but I want the money"

Post#1 » by myersia » Fri Mar 14, 2014 3:15 am

Posted this in the Steve Nash Thread. However, it is an interesting take on Mr. Nash and probably deserves it's own thread. At 6:25 Nash admits that he continues to play because he wants "the money". I understand where he is coming from. Not trying to bash him and respect his honesty. Nonetheless, still awkward. Great video though.

Hopefully ROballer chimes in and checks this thread out

That was depressing man! I wish both him and Kobe have respectful ends to their careers without having to talk about pay cheques or throwing the management under the bus.

It really is!! Who would have thought it would come down to this? It was depressing watching Iverson comes back for the 76ers a few years ago. I hope Nash and Kobe don't follow in the footsteps of the former number 1 pick in their draft class.

He also made a point that's 100% correct: Anyone else would do the same thing.

He's not anyone else...
In fact he's made $137,235,620 in his career... Just to put things in the proper perspective.
He's a long way from Kobe money but just as far from 'anyone else' too... And that's just NBA earnings, not net worth.

not to mention he will always always have endorsement opportunities in Canada. Oh well, tbh it doesn't matter to me, next season has been a lost season in my eyes for a while. Might even be worse than this season depending on whether or not kobe comes back truly healthy.

Steve Nash is a real dude. I believe him when he says that just because he wants the money doesn't mean he is going to ride out the injury. That should be more important to us. I don't think he will falter us in that aspect.

I'm not sure what that means. 9 Mil is 9 Mil, whether that "anyone else" is a millionaire or broke. No one passes up money like that, doesn't make sense.
He will rise again...

Keep telling yourself that...

Give a pit bull a bone and try to take it away... Now give him 2 bones and take one away... Now give him 140 million bones and take 9 million away...

Tell me which is easier.

No problem with Nash wanting to earn the money that is already guaranteed to him. This isn't some guy that signed a big deal and lost motivation and started dogging it. His inability to contribute has not been because if a lack of effort.

I'm fine with it. It's not like we were gonna land Lebron and (not or) Melo so it doesn't really affect us next season. His contract also expires at the ideal time for the impending 2015 Love free agency.

Plus, for those that mentioned how much he already made, 9 million is still 9 million. That's over 5% of his total career salary, which is a LOT. Anyone would be dumb not to take it.

Can't say I blame him. He is right; if I was in his position I would hold out for the extra money as well.
