Pau Gasol supportive of Kobe calling out the Lakers F.O.

I’m glad that he spoke his mind,” Gasol said following the Lakers’ 131-102 loss Thursday to the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. “He wants to win. He’s got two years under contract with the franchise. He wants to be in the best possible position to win. Whether you do that publicly or internally, that’s totally up to you. He spoke his mind and you have to respect him for that.”
Meanwhile, the Lakers don’t expect LeBron James to leave the Miami Heat if he opts out of his contract. The Lakers aren’t thrilled about Carmelo Anthony should he opt out of his deal with the Knicks. The Lakers wouldn’t want to spend a max-level contract on Cleveland’s Luol Deng and on Toronto’s Kyle Lowry. Kupchak had suggested earlier that the Lakers may use their financial flexibility more conservatively both to save up for a star-studded 2015 free-agent class and because of recently-imposed harsher penalties for high-spending teams.
“It makes things harder for teams, but it is what it is,” Gasol said. “The rules keep changing over the years. But you have to adjust and make the best out of it.”
I believe Pau will be back next season on some type of hometown discount. Seems he still wants to stay here just depending on the coaching situation. Anywhere between 8-10million would be great for Pau. To be honest these past couple of weeks he's been a really good offensive post presence. We just need to keep him closer to the paint instead of pushing him further away from it as he's getting older

Kobe could tell the f.o. to trade Pau, and Pau would still support him.

Pau's hasn't been bashful with taking shots at Kobe himself when he's felt he's been in the wrong over their tenure together

I love Pau, but there is no reason to keep him even at that discount price, unless we are signing Melo/Lebron (

) and going all in for a Championship. Even then, we would have a roster of 6 players including our pick, and little to no capspace left, if my math is right.

Funny how anybody that speaks out about our F.O certain posters will crucify them. Magic, Phil, Kobe and now Pau!! How sad!!

He's the face of the team so he has more right than anyone to call them out. MDA has to go and I want Pau back as well.

i'm good at having pau back at this price ... i still believe pau will be better if MDA is not the coach ... i wish we replace MDA next season and possibly make jordan hill stay as well ... we have a decent front court rotation ... MDA just doesn't know jow to use them ...

Pau for 9 or 10 mil would be a bargain.

I'm sort of a conspiracy theorist with this stuff, but that said, I felt like Kobe had a couple of reporters in the room setting up those questions... The press conference was called to talk about his injury and all that... And most of the reporters were asking questions about that, and then out of left field literally (Sounded like it came from the back of the room) someone asked an innocuous question about the 'what it takes to win' and Kobe launches into what sounded to me like a scripted or rehearsed tirade about the front office and MDA... At one point, he's answering questions the reporters aren't even asking...
I think Magic and Kobe set it up with Phil and maybe Jeanie... I think it was all about getting the FO to offer Phil a job so he didn't have to take the NY job across the country from Jeanie.
I honestly don't think he was asking for MDA to be fired... I think Mitch has had enough of MDA and I think Kobe just wanted to know what the plan was with the coach...
And if any of that is true, I'm a lot less confident in the Org... I'm actually OK with Jim for now, but I think Jeanie is going to have some seriously conflicted allegiances now, and she doesn't seem like the most stable person in the world anyway. Never really understood the 'let Jeanie run the Lakers' sentiment... Aside from being in bed with Phil and presenting the rings and what not, I never really saw any overwhelming basketball insight there. She's passionate about the team, but she seems passionate about a lot of things, and focused mostly on Phil.
I honestly could see here selling out and joining Phil in NY before I could see Jim selling out to her... Which if true, says something about her commitment.

Pau Gasol wrote:“His ideal scenario is not being on a team that (says), ‘OK, let’s see what happens. Let’s be patient. Let’s rebuild and let’s get a couple of young players and go from there,’” said Gasol, who will become a free agent this summer. “That doesn’t bring you championships. That doesn’t make you win -- in the short term at least, which is what him and I am very focused on.
He is tied in the next two years here with a great position, great contract. I’m free. So we’re in a different position and I’ll evaluate my options when I have them.” http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/lakers/post/_/id/39221/lakers-express-optimism-about-bryants-future?ex_cid=espnapi_public
I get the feeling Pau is leaning toward leaving if he doesn't get a nice contract himself. With Nash and Kobe getting theirs, the younger Pau should get his too.

I'm glad you're not in charge because you would have the team in the same state as Jim does, Jeanie the one you have so little faith in would get off of a nice 8 lane highway her father used to travel to building title teams, Jim on the other hand wanted to make his own path and he left the path and see how that is turning out for us so far. Well if you haven't been watching, its not good at all. I'm not saying Jeanie is all good and that she knows it all but the chick does care about the team more than Jim does. If he really cared he would do things the right way by following in his father footsteps

and how does one follow in the great jerry buss' footsteps? what is this 8-lane highway?
jerry buss had the luxury of 2 #1 picks, jerry buss had the luxury of being able to spend more money than other teams, jerry buss had the luxury of having the capspace to lure a superstar in shaq to town. jerry buss had the luck in trading for kareem and kobe and pau.
how does one do that when we're capped out with no money to lure premier FAs?
how does one do that when your two star players you bring to town, one decides to eat his contract and the other decides to bolt town before his injury fully heals?
how does one do that when the team decides to go through 2 straight seasons of injury plagues?
some people just don't understand that things are different because the rules are different. for god's sake, jim's only been in the job maybe 2 years
if you know what this 8 lane freeway is, please do tell

Get rid of MDA and Pau is back, if MDA is retained then Pau is bouncing. All Kobe did was tighten the noose around the necks of Mitch and Jim, they have to react now.

This is why I love pau. He doesn't go on some tirade and make emotional comments. He very eloquently states that the team's goals may not coincide with his short term goals. He doesn't throw anyone under the bus, he simply acknowledges that directions may be leading both parties apart. No blame to go around, just an understanding if the situation.

Pau can be a great backup C/F for a team contending for championship.

uh, pau can still easily be the starting center on a championship team, he doesnt need to come off the bench at all.

I love Pau, but don't agree...
A starting C on a championship team needs to be able to play Defense... He needs to man up the other C and he needs to be able to rotate to protect the rim... Pau is OK man to man sometimes, but he's way too slow to rotate and can't get off the floor anymore... The Lane looks like a landing strip for a jumbo jet when he's defending it.
He would be a major liability for us if we were a championship team and he was our starting C.
