Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
As I see The Pistons have no reason to match an offer sheet for Monroe, the on thing I see them doing is a S&T type deal. I know we don't have anything to offer other than TEP because our pick is off limits in my book.
I see Monroe as a good young player we can have up front for years, 23 years old, six-foot-eleven at 250 pounds. So this brings me to my question do you think Monroe and lets say we draft with Parker or Wiggins would be a nice duo going forward? I understand we would need more pieces, but do you thing this is a good direction to go?

If any team other than the Pistons gets Monroe, they'll be overpaying for him. If the Pistons decide not to match, it'll likely be because that team is offering him somewhere around $15 million a year.
I'd lose my mind if we paid that much for a borderline all-star big in the East.

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
I live in Michigan and work at the Palace of Auburn Hills (where Pistons play). After watching almost all of Monroe's games since he came into the league I can tell you that he has regressed this year. I know that the Josh Smith acquisition is to blame for that. But nonetheless, he has a long way to go. I had high hopes for him after last year. He is definitely a player that lacks confidence right now. Decent post moves and a decent defender. Not very athletic and not very fast if we continue to run up and down the court. Moose is decent but not sure he would be a good pick up for the Lakers. At 15 million a year he is definitely being overpaid. He would be a better fit for the Thunder or Trailblazers.

I was thinking he's more of 8-9 million starting out, but if teams are willing to pay that much for him I say move on to the next

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
We need a franchise player. Kobe isn't getting any younger...get a high draft pick and sign our players through free agency like we always do. I'm sure people are open to the idea of living and playing in LA.
Exum please and thank you!

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
Gasol is a better player and probably faster and more athletic too. The guy is too slow to play PF and not defensively good enough to play center.

If we trade our pick for Monroe, I will lead the public outcry on Figueroa St.

I've been a Monroe supporter all season. I believe his game suffered after they picked up Smith but at the same time I don't think he's a PF he's more of a nature center. 8 mil 9mil max.

Well Monroe would be an awful fit with embiid but other than that I would not mind signing him as long as it's not too much. He's got a real nice game and has become underrated this year.

I think Monroe should be a plan B if we don't draft Embiid.

Monroe can play, but at the same time he's not a 8-9 mil guy. I see it more like 6.5- 7 mil.

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
How do you figure that ? Embiid isn't nearly as good in the interior as Monroe is. If we had Greg I'd rather play through him in the post than Embiid, Joel is too raw skill wise and it'll be a long time before he's even close to the Olajuwon comparisons they lay on him, even though I don't see it at all. I saw Hakeem play in college and he was considered raw at the time but you could clearly see his future because his footwork was impeccable. Joel is still rigid.Doormatt wrote:Well Monroe would be an awful fit with embiid but other than that I would not mind signing him as long as it's not too much. Becuase they are both clearly centers. The reason Monroe is struggling this year is becuase he's asked to play PF next to Drummond, and he's clearly not as comfortable in that position. Embiid obviously can't play forward either, so it just doesn't make sense. Both guys are centers and neither can comfortably play pf

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
i don't think the lakers would have any real interest in trying to go after greg monroe. he's a restricted free agent so will require overpaying and he's not really a cornerstone type of player so tying up your cap like that isn't really great when you're still looking for the players you're going to build around.

I just dont get the Hakeem comparisons with Embiid at all. I know its not you saying it DEEP but that just lazy experts labeling Embiid something that he is not IMO

Re: Greg Monroe and Draft pick?
I get that but here's what you don't understand, you tell me what coach trying to win will play through the post with an unskilled, unproven center like Embiid ?Doormatt wrote:

The biggest misconception is that two bigs can't play together, it's false.....especially when one is more proven in the interior than the other. An offense would be ran through Monroe than Embiid, Greg has an offensive arsenal that Embiid doesn't.
So yeah while they're both clearly centers, if such deal could be done with Monroe getting here (which I don't think is possible) I'd roll with Monroe as my starter anyway.
But I get what you're say to a degree, the biggest challenge if those two played together would be teams pulling one out to the perimeter.
