Pau May sit it out... Last game as a Laker?

Disregard the WT article, it's misleading.

Pau Gasol might have played his last game in a Lakers uniform.

The team is leaning toward sitting him for its final seven games while he recovers from a severe recurrence of vertigo.

He won't play Friday against Dallas after dizziness kept him confined at the team hotel Wednesday while the Lakers played Sacramento. He flew back on the team charter that night after missing a fifth game because of the illness...

...Gasol, 33, becomes a free agent after this season, sure to take a pay cut from the $19.3 million he currently makes but unsure where he will land. If it's somewhere else, his last game with the Lakers will have been a nine-point, four-rebound effort in a 124-112 loss Tuesday to Portland.

Good news for the tank, sad news for sentimental reasons as that probably was his last game as a Laker.

He'll be back, IMO. Likely on a large 1 year deal if we don't really plan on spending money on FA's this off-season.

Not if MDA is back.

at his age and the injuries he's continually been dealing with, its probably in his best interest to seek as many guaranteed years as possible. i'd be surprised if anyone advised him to take a one yr deal, much less a one year deal here where the team won't play on a big stage since they won't be contending.

I think one of three things will happen... If we get a top 5 pick I can see us doing a sign & trade for K Love or if we don't land any free agent we sign him for one year or he walks... I don't believe DA comes back regardless of information being shared... We need a defensive coach... I want Lional or McMlian... Someone who can grow with the team...

hopefully he gets a nice standing ovation even if he's in a suit. I've had my fair share of hate towards his game these last couple of years but the guy help get us to to b2b chips and he changed the outlook of our team when things looked bleak. Deep down we all know he loves it here its unforutnate what has transpired over the years.

Hopefully Kobe can talk him into taking a 10% paycut like he did: 2 years at $17M.

That argument is two fold though. His issues could very well hamper him getting any type of guaranteed years past year 1. My guess is, he'll have to sacrifice quite a bit of money to get a 2nd and even 3rd guaranteed year. Then you look at the teams with cap space and none of them are anymore attractive than LA besides maybe Chicago (but why go after Gasol when you have Boozer potentially on an expiring deal). Which leaves the MLE on a contender. Who knows, you may be right, but I don't see him giving a discount to any team outside of LA and maybe Miami/another true contender.

There's not going to be very many teams that have the cap space to pay him good money and at the same time have a shot at contention, so I guess a sign and trade would be the best possible outcome if he plans on leaving. I can see Chicago making an offer using Boozer but unless they add a pick or player we should totally refrain from that deal and wait for him to be amnestied.

I hate boozer. I would rather have nothing. How is his contract currently constructed?

I just hope the guy retires as a Los Angeles Laker. He deserves it.

My thoughts on Pau scatter all over the joint, part of me wants him back but under a different coach . Then sometimes I think he won't come back and I understand that too. If his main reason has to do with coaching/system issues then I get it fully. But if it's about all the trade stuff over the last few years, then he can miss me with that.

Bottom line outside of Kobe, our only trade assets we had were Bynum,LO and Pau....that would net us anything of worth. I'm sorry but I'm old school and being a pro athlete you know the deal from Day 1, you can be traded at anytime. I get the personal issues that sometimes get in the way like if you got kids, then you have the same issues as Joe Blow. The kids are in school, they like were they live, they like their friends, it ain't that easy to up and move like that.

But reading Pau's comments recently and seeing how relived he was after this last trade deadline, he seems like he's ready to jet out of LA. He finally controls his own destiny.

Playing wise I don't see him as a major impact piece anymore, but he can help a team. I certainly don't see him as a 10-15 mil player anymore, anyone who pays that deserves to suffer cap wise for years.

We'll see what Pau does, but my feeling tells me he's leaving.

a scenario i can see happening is the grizzlies looking to bring in pau, something like 3 yrs 21 mil (7 mil per). they bring him in to solidify the front court, to give marc one huge reason to not leave them in 2015, and to have leverage against zach randolph when he's negotiating an extension. grizz can send back the 7 mil expiring deal of t. prince and throw in the rights to whoever they pick in this yr's draft (assuming grizz make the playoffs and its not a lottery pick).

reason the trade would work in the summer and didn't work this past deadline is cause the grizz can't trade that 2014 pick til they actually make it. it also works in the summer and not before because lakers only pull the trigger after surveying the FA market and concluding there isn't anyone worth signing to a long term deal.
