Boston's 17th pick + Rondo for Lakers 6-7th pick + Nash

Post#1 » by soxfan2003 » Sat Apr 19, 2014 12:01 am

Celtic fan here trying to come up with a Rondo trade to LA that makes sense to both teams.

Obviously, if Lakers can get Kevin Love or they move up in the draft into the top 3 or the player they really covet drops in the draft this trade makes no sense.

The advantage of Rondo to LA is that he probably helps maintain interest next year and is probably willing to play at a modest discount compared to some other destinations. So basically LA gets a "try" before you buy season from Rondo who will ditch his knee brace next year. And the Lakers still get the 17th pick.

I'm not sure if Rondo will ever return to his pre ACL form but I'm confident after he ditches that knee brace which he plans to do starting next year and has an off-season to work out, he should be better next year.

Don't know about that one, but I will say that guard usually recover from ACL issues quicker and better than big's do. But the Lakers would be leery of "testing" another soon to be free agent, got burned by that once and twice makes you a fool.

And trading the pick to down grade to 17 makes no sense to me. Mitch is only trading the pick if it can leverage a better deal that helps the Lakers and also benefits the other team.

But at least you were clairvoyant in how you saw that situation and not just thinking it would be pure gold for the Lakers not to pass up.

Would take it under a few conditions.. Deals for players like Love or Irving aren't available.. we end up with the 6th pick or worse. Would create a logjam in the backcourt though, because I'd want Napier with the 17th pick.

Absolute no brainer IMO. Rondo alone is already worthy of a 6-7th pick, adding in their 17th pick and Nash (a negative value contract), we take it and run.

no, rondo is not a top 10 point guard anymore, and he might fall even further depending on what he does next season. i have absolutely no interest in him and would much rather have one of the PG prospect from this draft.

rondo is like easily the most overrated point guard in the league. id rather we just go after lowry in FA than trade anything for him, since lowry is clearly better imo.

I'd do it…17th could still net us a decent player, max room still available. Could use that to absorb a bad contract and a few more picks, package that pick to move up a lil higher or something. 2 decent 1st pick, 1 max guy could get us middle of the their pack team quicker.

We can't trade before we pick anyway so it'll depend on who's on the board at that point...

I'm sure we could do something like give Boston a list of exceptions and agree to the trade in principle...

But yeah, I think I'd do that too... Although I'd work the phones pretty heavily to see if I could get an Irving or Love first.

Nope, don't think Rondo's that good and wouldn't wanna commit the type of salary yearly it would take to keep him around. Giving up the pick makes the no even easier for me

I would do this deal as long as the Lakers pick doesn't fall within the first 3 picks.

???

Rondo's defense has fallen?

He is a ball stopper?

Don't you have like 10 picks this year?

While Rondo is likely to be a much better player than anything you'd get for the 6th or 7th pick, he's not really someone I want the lakers to commit a lot of money to in their future.

Id do it depending on who we draft. Rondo still looks good. Hes been recovering pretty well and those kind of injuries take more than a season to fully recover.

... maybe i'll do it if we could get k.love too ... i respect rondo's game but i still wish he has that perimeter and long range game ... that will make him deadly ...

... if we have k.love then he could do that outside shooting for rondo ...

To everybody saying it's a "no brainer".....explain in detail why would you trade a lotto pick that could end up in the top 3-4 slots if luck prevails, for the 17th pick and a guard coming off an ACL injury and is ready to be a free agent soon ?

What for the sake of just having Rondo ?

I hate the fact Rondo can't really shoot the rock, yeah he does everything else well....defend,passing decent rebounder for a guard.

IDK...maybe it's me being stuck on this high pick. If I'm trading it it's gonna be for a player the franchise can lock down for the next decade and a half. The Lakers may never see this high a pick again so you have to make it count, either with a fantastic trade of gigantic potency or drafting a franchise changing player.

I think the op means it as our pick ending up 6 or 7th, not in the top 3.

Having said that what is being overlooked is that Rondo is going to be a FA next year and will be looking for a max deal. Something that he simply isn't worth.
