POLL: Should the Lakers fire Mike D'antoni?

Post#1 » by jPHENOM5 » Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:04 am

It's official, Mike D'antoni has coached the worse Laker season since the organization moved to Los Angeles. Although it may not entirely be his fault due to injuries and Laker organization attempting to save cap space by signing cheap one year contracts.. Let's take a look at what he's done during his two year tenure..

2013
- Mismanaged Kobe's and Nash's minutes leading them both to chronic injuries.
- Had the opportunity to coach one of the most talented Lakers team, but could not adapt his system to his players and could not figure out how to play Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard together more effectively.
- He was able to lead the Lakers to the playoffs as an 8th seed but was dealt a first round exit (Swept by Spurs).
- Rumor has it that Dwight left The Lakers because of D'antoni.

2014
- Had a full training camp with a team of players catered to his style.
- Kobe returned and D'antoni said he would monitor Kobe's minutes but continued to overplay him (Resulting in another Kobe injury).
- Kept preaching defense and rebounding as a reason as why we were losing games, but would often bench our better defensive players and rebounders (Johnson, Hill, Kaman).
- Coached an injury riddled team.
- Ended this season as the second worst team in the West and 6th overall. (The worser teams, tanked on purpose but we tried to compete).

Multiple players have shown a dislike for playing under D'antoni.. Dwight Howard, Antawn Jamison, Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol..

Thoughts?

Our defense sucks, and MDA one trick pony style has been copied around the league and he can't come up with another trick to counter. So on that premise I would either fire him or let his contract expire when bringing in new player and coach for 2016. So I am at a 50% but leaning to fire.

MDA needs to be fired! Injuries aside he has mismanaged this team completely! He needs to go!

I had a lot to say about this, but I'll leave it short and sweet because I'm not type to keep on posting and posting and wait for it ... Posting.

I hope he doesn't come back, not the fact because of the above, but because he can't use bigs and I've always liked Hill and I've liked Kaman the way he has played in the games this season, but with MDA aboard we will probably lose them unless Mitch can sell them on the bigger picture.

Hill/Kaman Please stay. MDA Please go.

You know what's the one thing that cracks me up about a lot of you Laker fans on here.

Last season you all complained about the Lakers Defense, then we ended up getting Howard one of the best defenders in the League and then you all complained about the offense LOL always cracked me up

Here's a harder question: Should Kevin Durant win the MVP this season?

I voted 'Yes,' but my answer is truly dependent on the off-season moves the Lakers make. If the team is bound to suck again, I say let MDA be the head coach next year, and then he and Nash can both leave the Lakers together. There's no point in paying for two coaches' salaries.

It is time for a new coach, new offense, focus on defense and more importantly back to a "winning culture"... You can't blame everything on DA but he did have Kobe last year and we still struggled... It would also in reSe the chances we keep Hill (huge) & Kaman... We do have some very reasonable complimentary pieces in the team in Meeks, Hill, Kaman, Farmar & possibly Young... Time to move on across the board...

This is not a hard question.

With Nash hurt there is no need for MDA.
Free Agents like Dwight left. Pau will leave if he is kept.

Free agents don't really wan't to run and gun unless they are young.

Older players need a half court game and a good defense
wins titles.

MDA did his job and gots some lotto balls and it is time to find
a new guy

Byron Scott, Brian Shaw are possiblities

This is the typical BS against MDA. I am not saying that he is ready for the hall of fame but he surely is not nearly as bad as you guys make him out to be. Why do you have this vendetta against this guy? No one would have led this roster to any more victories than he did this year. No one would have made Howard any better last year or kept him around for this year if Kobe still remained on your team. That is the reason Howard pouted all year and wanted to leave for less money, not because of MDA. If was obvious that he did not like either Kobe or Gasol and saw not future. Until you move on from the Gasol/ Kobe duo you are going to suck. They are done and no player in their right mind will want to play with them. Open your eyes. If you do keep them I hope your enjoy watching them in street clothes on your bench all next year. You are stuck with Kobe and I hope you keep Gasol. I also hope you get Melo. Then you will have a third guy to join Kobe and Gasol in street clothes on your bench.

It appears that you are OK with keeping MDA if you are not able to acquire any talent. Why not replace him with a coach to tudor that lack of talent, if he is so bad?

If you do acquire talent you want to dump him. I expect Phil Jackson would have waited on that opportunity if he thought that was possible. Why is Steve Kerr more interested in the Knicks over the Lakers. The have a mess in New York as well.

What coach has won in this league without talent?

You had no talent this year and last year all of your talent was hurt for most of the year except for Kobe who went down after Mike got that mess you had last year into the playoffs.

I hope you acquire the coaches you all suggest. I also hope you plan your future around guys like Gasol, Kaman, Hill and Deng. You will suck even more and get what you deserve.

You guys really have no clue.

why do you care so much tho?

Haha what? Lies? Dude's system has never won, he's a 500 coach regular season(and needed the Suns glory years to get up to that) and a .400 coach in the playoffs. His offense leads to defensive problems with long rebounds and no paint protection. Even if you claim the injuries have nothing to do with his system you can't get past his lame system has been a playoff dud except when he had a ridiculously talented PHO team (that never wont a chip).

And then on top of all that he's told Laker fans to go find another team, he's pissed off an unusual amount of players within multiple franchises, and is also hands down the most despised coach in Laker history.

Seriously!! The irony of Suns fans coming on OUR BOARD giving us advice on a coach that has basically failed his entire career. Cant write this ish up even if you try!!
