What to do with 2014-2015 Cap

At 1st I thought we should sign a few moderately price players and get back into the mix a bit. However with our pick most likely being 6th or worse and the biggest FA name out there is Melo I have now reconsidered saving that cap for 2015-16 instead. So I'd choose to try and offer up cap space to absorb major contracts that expire after the season, i.e. Boozer, Dunleavy, etc. or take on a moderatley overpaid player on a 2-3 year contract but of course with 1 or multiple picks either this upcoming draft or 2015. Save that cap for the likes of Rondo, Love, etc. This off-season class if full of players that would make us better but also more of a treadmill team like Dall. Unless the unthinkable happens and we get #1 pick and Kobe bows down to Lebron and offers up the team to him

I'm of the opinion that we need to sign atleast one impact player or more while keeping a max salary slot open to attract a franchise caliber free agent in 2015-16. If we pick a big in the draft, I'd offer a contract to Lowry, Stephenson or Bledsoe. There is also the absolute need to nail that draft pick and pick a very good player.

I'm officially committed to competing again with Kobe so that means signing some FA's. In a perfect world...trade the pick & Nash for Kyrie and sign KLove next offseason. Uncle Drew and his pal Wes! Git er done Mitch :D

Way too many variables right now to make a decision about 14/15... Let's get through the draft and free agency, see who we get to coach and get a feel for the team through the first half of the season or so... Then think about the following off-season.

No, it's not too soon to plan, but we have a lot we can do now that will impact our needs for that season.

I just dont think we need to commit ourselves to any long term contract this off-season if we dont move up in the draft. I know port. got lilliard at 6th, does Smarts have that type of potential? I doubt Exum will last us at 6th and the mock on espn has us takign Gordon, he seems like a fairly raw project, could easily bust out like Wes Johnson.

Regardless of how the draft plays out or who is or is not available in free agency, the Lakers need to keep enough cap space to offer someone a max deal NEXT year. I could see the most we spend on a free agent being around the $10 million/year mark as it would match the amount of money expiring with the Nash deal.

sell capspace for draft picks, then trade for love because we're keeping 2015 capspace open

I not too high on Asik or Lin, but both are solid contributors, and are not wanted by the current team. I would put Lin above Farmar and Marshall and Asik is much better than Sacre. While neither one would ruin our cap situation for next summer. Assuming we strike out this summer and do not get a max type player.

Lowry would be an excellent signing but this is where Kobe's contract just kills us. Lowry will surely be looking for his big pay day but with him, Nash, and Kobe on the books it would really hurt cripple our cap space. I don't want to risk not having the cap space to sign a max player in 2015. At this point everything is a big gamble.

If it is not a huge impact player, save it and make a move before the trade deadline. Every year an all-star is traded.

Is drafting smart at 6th really that bad?

I wouldn't help out Hou like that though, if we didn't want them for Howard S&T last summer we definetly shouldn't do it this summer as it basically gives Hou enough money to get a MAX slot for FA.

Not a bad idea if that's possible.. There probably are teams out there looking to unload players... It has to be right though

We got lucky last year. The guys on our current roster aren't going to come back for one year deals. If we go with the one year plan then be prepared for another season of a bunch of new faces.

We could just wait a season and sign either guy. Asik would be my top FA target in 2015-16 if we don't draft a center.

I vote no more talk about next season or the 1 after that until May 20th :)

Only 1 could hope.

Not even going to check up on any more B-ball < time to get a life and explore a bit haha.

trading for lin/asik could be the only way we sell capspace for 1yr rentals + drafts AND compete for the playoffs in the same breath

it would however help houston create a super team with harden/parsons/melo/dwight

but considering they are also 1 year deals, the love plan is still in full swing, plus we could use whatever loot we get from selling capspace to trade for love if we dont want to give up whoever we draft

Give it to Joe Dumars.
