Ariza...

Post#1 » by dj20001 » Mon May 5, 2014 11:37 am

Is there any chance the team brings him back and if so, how much would they be willing to pay?

Doubt it... Ariza was a young guy with a good motor and potential with us... He's a few years older now and likely has achieved whatever potential he had...
For the money, I think there are multiple better fits for us.

We don't want to tie up money in role players unless they come super cheap.

Ariza and Deng are good players but I think we want to look for less established, developing players to fill those roles.

I think it depends on what pick the Lakers get in the lottery if they get a pick that allows them to get a Wiggins or Parker I think they don't go after an Ariza or Deng if they can't get one of those 2 they might go after Deng or Ariza unless Kobe moves to SF.

arizas been a beast this year. solid 3 pt stroke, excellent wing defense. can slow down durant with the best of em. probably commands 8+ million a yr.. probably a little too much. id rather have him than deng. i love dengs consistency, defense, shooting.. but looks like hes slowed down a bit and for a longer term contract, i see ariza with more upside. (although hes a little injury prone)

Definitely agree with you but do you think since Kobe really likes Deng that front office would take that in to consideration?

I like Ariza and Deng, but I want bigger names than those. We should only be talking about them if we've managed to obtain some other serious talent. If not, we need to stay away...especially when you consider their cost.

When Kobe wanted to be traded I believe he made it clear that he wanted Deng to still be on the Bulls. Kobe respects the hell out of Deng and Ariza. Deng is easily the better player though.

We can afford Deng & still have room for another superstar as long as we don't sign other multiple year contracts.. Deng shouldn't get more than 11-12M a season.

Doubt it. Why would he leave a winning team in WSH for the Lakers? I'd love for him to come back but I don't see it happening. Deng coming to LA is more likely.

I like Ariza but i'd rather have Wes Johnson at peanuts than Ariza for macademians

i like bazemore for his speed and ability to get to the hole and finish, hes better than ariza offensively at this stage in his career...IF he can be aggressive on D as he is on O we might have something here. currently he reminds me of taller left handed out of control westbrook with a better 3p

Funny thing is this, when Trev left here he wasn't what his dumb a** agent was trying to command salary wise. Now he's out our price range because he can easily get 7.5 to 8 mil. Besides I'm all for holding a good chunk of our cap for 2015 now, nothing in this FA class is worth blowing that up over.

agree.

young, athletic SF who can defend is dime a dozen.

i also like James Johnson.

After we use our cap space, we have a new salary cap tool called a "Room Exception" for 2.7m for 1 season. I would love for Ariza to come home and slide into that space.

I forgot about him in the offseason moves thread. I think its about time Lakers land a SF with above average offensive abilities with solid defense. Artest never gave less than %100 percent of his capabilities for the team but his offense was a trainwreck after his first season. In case of a top3 pick I don't see Lakers passing on Embiid, which means that SF and PG are spots to fill with FA. I think it is more logical to look for a short term solution for SF since most of the large FA targets in the following years will be on the forward spot, thus Deng may be a better option, Trevor would most certainly ask for a big contract with 4 years minimum.

Why would he want to come back here? Wall and Beale are starts in the making along with Nene. They got a good thing over there in Washington.
