The next event will happen with the NBA Draft lottery on Tuesday in New York City where the Lakers will learn their draft order surrounding their first round pick. After finishing with 27-55 record, the sixth worst in the NBA, the Lakers’ draft pick will likely fall either in sixth (43.9 percent) or seventh (30.5 percent). The Lakers have a 21.5 percent chance of climbing to a top-three pick and have slim odds of dropping either to eight (4 percent) or nine (.1 percent).

“If the window is 1-9, it’s significant,” Kupchak said on Friday. “Obviously we want to get lucky. So there’s a lot of anticipation and we’re hopeful that Tuesday is a good day. If I had to be in the lottery, this would be a year to have a pick.”

So much that Kupchak said he may seek acquiring additional first-round draft picks.

“We may look to get a pick some other way because we have guys we interviewed who aren’t going to be gone before the second round, but they’ll be around after [our current pick],” Kupchak said. “You only get so many assets in this league. Draft picks are an asset. There’s cap room, draft picks and players. Those are assets you can use to rebuild a team.”

There's definitely depth in this draft, so the idea of getting multiple picks may have really good value to filling out the roster with young cheap talent. Hmmmm...Thoughts fellas?

After Wiggins, Parker, Exum, Embiid are off the board would we really consider the idea of moving the pick?

Classic Mitch quote. Won't commit to anything and won't rule out anything either.

Unless we buy a pick, I really don't see how. Unless someone wants to give us a first round pick for Sacre or Nash but I doubt that's happening. But hey, if some team wants to do that, take back that quote and scream "DONE" as soon as offered.

Think he was talking about acquiring second round picks...

Which I think is possible. I think teams are a little too focused on the top spots in this draft. I think they might be willing to dump seconds.

I hope so. Lol. There's a TON of good second round picks in this draft that can come in and be rotation players.

Example- Patric Young, Scottie Wilbekin, Nick Johnson, PJ Hairston, Isaiah Austin, Jarnell Stokes and that's just the guys off the top of my head.

Yeah, we dumped our draft picks for the last decade or so... But context people... We had crap picks in mostly crap drafts and we needed players that could contribute more than we needed rookie projects, and even then, we did OK.

Just say we drop to 7th, 8th or 9th. Would Phoenix be willing to move up in exchange for both their 14th and 18th picks? Would the Lakers be interested in doing such a thing?

I really doubt it. After the 5th I really don't see anything the Lakers would have any interest in for the long run. I think we are going either 3rd or 4th. Outside of that Im not to hyped up for anyone else.

The Lakers can keep their pick and use their cap space to get more picks by taking on contracts that teams don't want anymore in exchange for picks. The Lakers for example could take on the expiring contracts that either the Rockets or Bulls have for their picks so that those teams can go for Melo.

The Lakers could trade the pick but I don't really see us getting anyone good from it that won't be a free agent the next season and I'd rather have our pick over someone like Rondo.

Whats the point in that?

No chance of us getting 4th I'm afraid.

It would get us additional picks without having to give up anything. The only real trade asset we have is Nash's expiring contract and I don't see anything meaningful coming out of that unless its packaged with a pick of our own or something.

And wasn't Kobe drafted at 13 or something?

Plan is simple... Top 3 you draft Wiggins, Parker or Embid or trade for K Love... 4 or 5 pick you grab Exum... 6, 7 & 8 pick you trade for Rondo...

We can only get 1,2,3,6,7,8,9. The problem I have with trading the pick is that both of the players you mentioned are free agents next season and I really don't think current Rondo on an expiring contract is worth a top 10 pick.

Lakers will not have any draft picks next few years. They studiply traded them away in the Nash deal. Your welcome Phoenix. I would not trade away this years pick. Laker fans have little fun around this time of year. Do not take that away from us. Even a 5-6-7-8 pick is still some real good talent.

I agree with others, want a middle round pick. Try to buy one. I think the Suns have 3 first rounders, they will not use all of them, give them 3 million. Start to rebuild this roster.

We are not getting the headlines right now. That other team in town is. LA is a Laker town and will always be that way.
