Deng & Collison

Post#1 » by VanExeleNT » Thu May 29, 2014 5:53 pm

Reports came out today that both of these guys will be free agents, Collison opting out and Deng most likely not to be resigned by the Cavs.

Collison only made a little over a million last year so I can't expect him to ask for too much more even though he opted out. He's quick and he been watching CP3 play.

I think those two will fit in well and wouldn't cost too much, even if we kept them for a couple of years they would make affordable pieces to a championship team in a few years...wanted to see what Laker fans on here thought...

i like collison, but as a full time starting PG, hes been pretty underwhelming. But his defensive tenacity would be welcomed in LA. and a backcourt of him and bazemore can be pretty special on the defensive end.

Deng seems like a player would who cost too much for what he brings. But kobes wanted to play with him for a while now, so i can see the lakers looking into it. But id still like to see how wes johnson plays next to kobe for a majority of the season.

I'm fine with spending money to keep Farmar, would only want Collison at the rate he got last year. Its obvious he opted out to get paid and if I had to choose between Farmar or Collison to pay, I take Farmar.

If Deng agrees to a reasonable salary then he is definitely worth it! I'd offer 4 year 40 million. I think he is worth that.

I'd rather have Lowry + Monroe over Collison + Deng.

G - Lowry/Marshall
G - Bryant/Baze
F - Wes/MMLE or Swaggy
F - Vonleh or Gordon/Kelly
C - Monroe/Sacre

But if Deng agrees to 8 or 9 million per year, I'd take him because he is an elite defender and a good shooter. Still want Lowry though.

That 3rd and 4th year at 10 mill a season worries me for an injury plagued player. But thats the kind of deal I believe will need to be offer to get him here

You definitely have a point but let's face it Deng is extremely valuable when healthy and next to Kobe could be extremely affective. I know many posters want nothing to do with Deng but he is an affective role player.

IF you guys are willing to shell out 10mill a year for Deng why not try 7mill/yr for Ariza for same amt of time? Younger, better athlete, less injury prone, better 3pt shooter, maybe not as versatile a defender as Deng but still good enough for us. Might be contract year production for Ariza but at least its his #'s are up as oppose to Deng #'s last year and Deng is more than injury prone, he's Steve Blake like injury prone with weird off-court ailements like his recent bouts with weird blood disease/infection.

I'd love for Ariza to come back. Deng can give 17-20 ppg is the only difference and have a bigger impact on the game. But I'd take Ariza for 4 year 24 million deal or 4 year 28 million (team option on fourth year).

If we could get Lowry and Ariza for a respectable amount while drafting Gordon and resigning Kaman, I would call this a respectable year.

I would love

Lowry
Kobe
Ariza
Gordon
Kaman

to start out next year. Would be a little concerned about scoring and defense but what the eff not like we are going to win it all next year

Would take them both on a discount. No way is paying Deng 10 million a good idea, unless it's a one year deal (which he would never take). That's a lot of money tied up for a third/fourth option on a championship team. Collison and Deng could be starters on a championship team, if that team has atleast 2 superstars and atleast one more "deng level' player. 10 million to deng, 25 million to Kobe, capholds/rookie contracts/and whatever else we're giving collison would make it pretty much impossible to get another Max player AND another solid piece. For example, and this just hypothetical, but if we get a max player like, love (2015) for example, our core would be Kobe/Collison/Deng/Love/Rookie. That seems like a second round exit to me at best. Now, if Deng takes a substantial discount, say at 7 million a year (highly unlikely) he would be a perfect addition, and I would take without hesitation.

Harris would be a good 3 option if we can't get Lowry or Collison. I wouldn't offer anything more than 3 mil. to Collison. Harris and Farmar should be a pretty solid PG rotation.

i like me some harris, too. in fact, i wanted the lakers to try and trade for him before he went to new jersey. however, the boy is as injury prone as they come.

He's not a stretch 4 of course but I think Hill should start at PF if the Lakers don't draft Randle or Vonleh. Gotta have solid defense out there.

Collison would be a great option if say Farmar doesn't re-sign which I highly doubt. The guy took less money to come back to L.A. to begin with.

How about MCW ($2 million) & Ariza ($5 million)... MCW, Kobe & Ariza would create issues on the defensive side with their length and athleticism...

Deng turned down that down in Chicago. I assume he wouldn't take that in LA. Deng probably end up with the team that offers him the most money
