Sixers are considering trading Michael Carter-Williams

Post#1 » by Fresh360Waves » Thu May 29, 2014 9:58 pm

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bas ... draft-exum

ESPN reports that the Philadelphia 76ers have "bounced around" the idea of trading Rookie of the Year point guard Michael Carter-Williams because of their fascination with tantalizing point guard prospect Dante Exum.

The Philadelphia 76ers are Exum fans as well, and if Wiggins is off the board, Exum will be in the mix. They think Exum and Carter-Williams could play together in the backcourt, although it would not be a very good shooting tandem. I think the more obvious fit comes if they trade Carter-Williams, an idea I'm told they have bounced around.

Although MCW will enter into his second year in the NBA next year, is he worth giving up the #7 pick for?

A sophomore PG averaging 17, 6 & 6 is worth the 7th pick in my opinion... Grab Ariza & our wings would be long and athletic with MCW, KB 24 & Ariza... Do it Mitch...

I'm going to be in the minority here but I don't know if MCW will have a better season than he did his rookie year. I could be wrong but I think he may be fools gold which is why the 76ers have thought about it.

the potential of MCW is intriguing, but i agree with this. The sixers had no veteran presence last year, and just allowed their young guys to play their game. Brown was a good coach for him, and is developing MCW in the right fashion, but his numbers, in my opinion, are pretty inflated. However, his defensive potential is astounding. 7th pick? would be tough to part ways with. Maybe trade down for an early teen and 20ish pick? and give the sixers the former.

That is one of the more confusing articles I've read recently.

lol, if exum was available at the 7, we'd take exum, not trade him for MCW

agreed, but most likely he wont be available at 7. philly seems keen at taking him at 3, which is why they want to move MCW because the lack of shooting in their back court. But if philly decides to go with whoevers left over out of wiggins, embiid, parker (most likely him), then orlando will no doubt pick exum... unless the rumors of them liking smart enough to draft him at 4 are substantial

yep I agree to somewhat...everybody was on Tyreke Evans nuts after his rookie season of 20/5/5, never saw those #'s again.

but then again if Phi threw in 10th and or took Nash back and we had legit plans to use Nash freed up spot/money to sign 2 MAX FA this year then I would strongly consider it.

I'd do that trade ten times out ten. They want Nash and give us the 10th pick I am totally down with that :D

The real questions is is Vonleh or Randle > MCW... Exum or Smart won't be there... This is VERY SIMPLE... The answer is NO... Take MCW & RUN... Stop over valuing draft picks and potential... MCW is better than a 6'8" PF with limited upside or a 6'10" center who is RAW... Very SIMPLE...

oh yes, we should also ignore the fact that he turned the ball over an incredible 3.5 times a game, while shooting 40% from the field, 26% from 3, and 70% from the ft line. hes horribly inefficient, he just put up big stats because philly has nothing but scrubs and let him do whatever he wanted. theres really nothing impressive about what he did imo. talented kid but no way i would trade a pick for him, id much rather gamble on drafting someone that can actually shoot and take care of the ball.

MCW is a very good player but this draft is a good one and he would probably have been 10 or higher in this draft.

I would rather take my chances at Lavine and keep the pick. He got potential and MCW is a very solid player but
I want to keep and develop talent.

Lavine needs playing time and this guy is going to get better with more minutes and his athletic body.

The problem with MCW is that he played on a squad that didn't give a care in the world; thus, he got away with putting up great #'s. Look at Philly's roster. There wasn't anyone else who was making noise.
My point is that MCW might look really good because he played on a sh#tty team. I could be wrong, though. 50/50; could go either way.

MCW was an old rookie. His upside isn't very good. I wouldn't trade anything significant for him and would rather keep the pick with someone we could develop.

After the Dwight Howard trade I really doubt Sixers would trade with us...They got ripped off badly with Andrew Bynum.

I would take Smart over MCW straight up.. But if Phi is willing to throw in #10 or eat Nash's contract, I'd have a hard time saying no. If they're willing to give up the pick, MCW, AND take on Nash, I'll pack Smart's bags for him. We could add Deng.. Make a big 1 year offer to Pau.. Probably keep 1 of Young or Hill & still be able to add 2 major FA's next summer. If MCW doesn't pan out Rondo hits FA next summer. If MCW is a solid starter, we go for the homerun & try to pair up Love with a C like M. Gasol, Asik, Jordan. MCW-Kobe-Deng-Love-M.Gasol with reserves like #10 pick, Hill or Young, Farmar, Bazemore, X, Kelly would be a contender unless Kobe is done & MCW is a bum.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I love what MCW brings to the table. There's something to be said about experience and he certainly got some of that at 34 minutes a game for 70 games as a rookie.

i hate this myth that MCW only put up numbers because his team sucked.

if anything his numbers were hindered by having D-League teammates. Having watched all 82 Sixers games this season, he could have averaged 7-9 assists. His court vision was nice, his size and length makes him unstoppable going to the rim
i sure as heck hope we don't trade him, and I don't think in the end we will.
