http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24592502/nick-young-will-opt-out-wants-to-return-to-lakers-on-multi-year-deal“Just more years. I believe I deserve more,” Young said Wednesday in an interview with this newspaper. “That's up to my agent to do that for me. The Lakers are home, but things could happen. With free agency this year, it's going to be crazy to see.”
…
Young did not outline what dollar figure he wanted, though he joked he told Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak that he needs “two years at $50 million to come back.” The Lakers signed Bryant for the next two years worth $48.5 million. Young sounded serious about considering a hometown discount.
“It depends how much the discount is,” Young said. “But as a player, everyone wants a place they feel comfortable at. I feel comfortable in L.A. But I can't keep taking these discounts. I need a raise a little bit. But if it's for the right cost and they're bringing in players and I fit into the rotation, then I'll probably take a pay cut.”
I wouldn't mind paying Nick on a multi year deal at 3-4 mill a season. He saying he's willing to take a lower market salary to stay.

I hope the Front office turns its focus to fielding a competitive roster. Young around the 3-4mill mark is worth it IMO. Just wish we'd stop focusing on creating a Superteam. Lets focus more on fielding a balanced complete roster. Your a solid team if we're healthy and Nick Young is giving you 12-14ppg off the bench because we need to keep Kobe's mpg at no more than 32mpg going forward in his career

young for 3-4 mil for 3 years is a steal, especially for that price

Having players that want to be here is important... Swaggy P & Farmar took discounts to play in LA... They deserve pay raises... Allot of moving parts but I like both of them...

He can pack his bags for anything over 4 million a year. I'd offer three year 12 million that's it. I understand that he gives you scoring off the bench but I have a feeling we are going to have a more "serious" team next year. No more playing around. Not sure Swaggy can handle that. But 12 million over 3 years is the only offer I'd consider.

Young will have Early Bird rights in 2015 should he agree to a low-dollar, one-year contract and that would benefit both parties. That exception could pay around $6 million in 2015 and having Young sign another small deal now means he'll have a small cap hold next year, which won't use up too much space.
Young does deserve to get paid after averaging 17.9 points (43.4 percent on three-point shots) in 2013-14, however if he wants to remain with the Lakers long-term he will have to be flexible with his contract demands.
Hopefully that's how it goes.. 1 more year of Young on the cheap then we lock him in on a multi year deal with his bird rights next summer after we sign a superstar FA.

But I think a multi-year deal for a salary of 4 mill a season is what he's looking for to stay here. He knows he wont get market value to stay here with the Lakers. I could see teams giving him 5-7mill season but if he can give us a hometown discount of 4mill a season thats a bargain for a player who can bring offense off the bench and create his own shot. Nick also improved his defense this past season also

True. I am all for bringing him back with that discount. Anything more isn't happening. He will get better offers. We'll see how much he really wants to be laker. If he does then more power to him for caring about the importance and legacy of being a laker. I sometimes wonder if he cares more about being a laker or being relevant as being a laker has it's perks of being known nationally (see smush parker, kwame brown, brian cook). His girl Iggy might also be the reason but who knows.

There's a lot of players out there that can replace his production and will bite for 2-3 mil IMO. Bazemore, Henry, Butler (might take the vet), Gordon, Granger, Richardson

^^ only player there that can create their own shot is gordon, and i don't think he'd take 2-3 mil per, he's only coming off a 5yr/55 mil contract

None of them will give us 17 PPG.. Huge difference between a good 6th man & a decent bench player.,

he's not a championship team caliber player. he wont fit into LA's plans for too long. he's probably on his way out to a scrub team where he can score all he wants and not worry about anything else

Can you offer him a 2/6,5M deal with the second year as a player option? He could opt out after the first season and the Lakers would have his early bird rights. After signing an Allstar in 2015 you could offer him a 3/10-12M deal.

Probably headed for the Thunder on a 3 year deal. That bench scoring punch they keep looking for.

by what would jack bauer do?
Dude deserves to get paid $3-4 mil a year, so does Farmar.
How about we just stick to the plan and keep cap space open for next year. I don't see why we do what the Knicks did with Jr Smith (but in reverse order), he took a huge discount for a couple years cause he wanted to play in ny and then he was rewarded with a bigger contract last summer even after a terrible playoff stretch. We should sign swaggy and jfar to big 1 year deals ($5-6mil each? Sure why not.) And then resign them again next year on a discount. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours. They're guaranteed the money up front so their family is taken care of and in the end they'll play on the team they bleed purple and gold for.
