Can the Lakers use Pau gasol in any kind of sign and trade. Hate to loose him for nothing, I know he is a free agent. Love to flip him for something, even a pick in the 20-30 range.

As the Lakers are under the cap yes they can S&T him, but Pau of course would have to approve the team he's traded too and the contract he'd be signing.

he wont sign and trade since he wont have an option of where to go. he wants to win championships so i expect him to go to miami or chicago

Should try to S&T him to Chicago for Boozer and 16 + 19.

That's not happening.
CHI is selling Boozer with a pick to gain a grip of cap room. Taking Pau in SnT defeats the purpose. They want room to go after top tier not Pau.
And they toss in 19 to boot?

I don't see Pau commanding $16M per. Probably half. Then they'll have money to go after multiple vets who can contribute more quickly than a 16th and 19th pick would.

They might not have 16 and 19 if they use one to get Afflalo and one to dump Boozer.

I do think Pau would be great for Bulls though, as Noah and Gibson back up big. They'll probably be a strong suitor in FA, offering 8 - 10 m if not using room on Melo or someone bigger.

I imagine he'll get 9-10 a year over 3-4 years to sign somewhere like Dallas.

Lakers need to get something for him. Not many assets after the 7th pick. Pau at lease owes the Lakers that much.

Miami, who uses Bosh as a 3 pt shooter? Hope Pau can work on his 3 pt shot, he sure did great being a stretch 4 under D'antoni :o Pau's not going anywhere where he wont be allowed to play the game he likes to play, in the post.

If 9-10 mil is what he's looking for especially at 34 then the Mavs can have him. 3-4 years is too steep for the Lakers, hell the 36 year rule stopped the Lakers from giving Kobe more years. Pretty sure all Pau is going to get is 2 years max.

And on cue, the Mavs are linked with him in the news. Say bye to Pau methinks.

Ehh....these guys are free agents, every team is going to be linked to everyone that is one. It's up to these guys to stay or go, and more often than not they stay and take a bigger deal. In Pau's case he knows it will be smaller money...said money wasn't that important to him at this stage of his career. So it's about stability and style of play.

That said I think he has a good chance to come back to the Lakers depending on money and if those rumors of trades can just cease. If MDA had still been here, then Pau was gone, now with another coach coming in that already changes things. I know I said 9-10 mil is steep and it is for a 34 year old, but Pau is still capable of putting up decent numbers when used correctly.

If Pau leaves it's because he wanted too.

I like Pau, I feel he's been very underappreciated on the Lakers, but how can you realistically think you'll sign him?

You have $20 mill in cap space at the moment if I remember correctly. So if you give Pau 9-10 of that, you're basically done. And the idea Pau will accept a 1 year deal at his age just seems far fetched and ridiculous. This will be his last meaningful contract, why should be give up potentially tens of millions of dollars to play for a club who has repeatedly tried to trade him, who isn't contending, and who is not even sure they want him back?

not that I discourage you from posting here but for a Spurs fan you sure take a lot of interest in our team :-?

I really hope DAL is serious so we can end this silliness of signing Pau to a 1 or 2 year deal that makes NO SENSE TO LAL. Can't wait till I can stop reading the posts that propose this nonsense. For the uninitiated, re-signing Pau at any price takes away cap space for a FA that will be a building block for future years. Thanks for the memories, but Pau is going to play elsewhere next season. Mitch had the chance at the deadline but made a mistake IMO by not moving him for whatever draft pick he could get. Maybe a team over the cap wants him and we get something in return but that is unlikely. More likely he goes to a team with cap space and LAL gets nothing.

I proposed a trade with Minny which brings Love, KevMartin and Brewer (or Budinger) for rights to 7 and 30 mil straight up cap space (made by stretch prov Nash).

If this went down, I'd say resign Pau to play C and offer him 2 yr / 15m (7.5 per).

Lesser salary than others but he doesn't have to move out of Manhattan Beach and doesn't have to play outside with Love on board. Expires when Kobe does.

The last sentence. A agree with that, I wouldn't even blame him, if he thought the trade rumors won't die, and just goes to Dallas and retires there.

I still believe his best fit is Phoenix with their medical staff and young team

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Maybe im not paying close enough attention, but what are the chances that the Mavs would overpay just get him out of LA? For that matter, what are the chances a Chica-go or Miami overpays?

It seems thats the trend now a days. I mean come on! Josh Smith and Rudy Gay both got paid. I think Pau is going to get paid either way. In LA or outside of LA.

That doesn't work under the cap. Firstly you have $20 mill cap space, not $30. That includes the #7, but it's still not enough. Secondly, to have this cap space you'd need to renounce Pau, which means you can only offer him the minimum afterwards (which he obviously wouldn't take). I also doubt the #7 alone is enough.
