Carmelo Anthony Thread

I figure if Kevin Love can have a thread despite never helping a team win, and Bron has a thread, Melo should too. He is the second best superstar on the market easy, not just a run of the mill free agent like Deng or Lowry or Gortat
Here is the Stephen A. Smith audio from earlier today.
http://espn.go.com/espnradio/losangeles ... 32464&s=la Talks about the Lakers at 4:20.
The Los Angeles Lakers, yes they have the ability to pair LeBron and Carmelo, 2 max guys with Kobe, because in a perfect world they would all love to play together."
"Melo ain't going to Cleveland just to play with LeBron even if he could, but if you're talking about them both ending up in L.A., there is no question that would be something considered strongly on Melo's part, and to a lesser degree on LeBron's."
Steve Popper@StevePopper3 minutes ago
Phil talked about Melo now out of the Knicks control - "Kobe is persuasive."

Lakers' dream is to add LeBron & Melo this summer. If that fails would go for CBosh & Melo, sources say. That's assuming Bosh opts out

Source: Knicks free agent Carmelo Anthony expected to make decision the 2nd week of July after visiting select teams.

A source said there is currently no frontrunner for Anthony's services. He is expected to meet with the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. There was no mention of the Miami Heat. Anthony hopes to visit the aforementioned teams in their respective cities during the opening days of free agency. At the moment, no other teams are expected to get a meeting.

We got added to the list of teams he will meet with after Kobe contacted him, while he still isn't meeting with Miami. I think the plans are
Kobe Melo Bron Randle - A
Kobe Melo Randle Bosh - B
Lowry Kobe Melo Randle - C
Kobe Melo Randle Pau - D
I think they lure Melo first in hopes that can lure Bron. Melo seems most feasible because of Kobe's relationship with him. And Bosh isn't a bad backup plan if he and Bron both opt out while wade opts in, assuming Bron stays in Miami for the real max and they try and retool with pieces like Gortat.

Can Randle and Bosh play together? If they can then Bosh and Melo would be perfect and would make us competitive quickly if Kobe is healthy.

If bosh is just jump shooting sure. You got to factor in Kobe and Melo both that long ago were one and two in post up conversion rate in the league. Bosh can just get his Horace on and make what Pau bricks. Randle will just have to work the glass. I mean its not right to use bosh solely how Miami used him, but you can incorporate some of his jump shooting as he's a great jump shooter for a big. Kobe could dump it to him for bunnies too.
Lack rim protection but Bosh cover the pnr like a ****

I'd rather split $20 mil between Lowry and Gortat than spend it on Melo. Only reason I'd consider would be if Lebron really wanted to play with him and no other team can make it possible.

I like both but I'm not sold on Gortat or Lowry at 8 figures. I'd like both if we struck out with Melo and. Bron, but then I'd also want Deng factored in for balance.
Melos on a different tier than Lowry or Gortat. I would love to see Melo and Lowry with Kobe and Randle, then have Hill back with the room exception as a starter where he only has to do dirty work.

Melo and Kobe with a broken frontcourt and PG position will get us nothing. Most of what Melo does overlaps with Kobe and Kobe is far more efficient at it, I also want to give Randle enough post touches to develop well. Gortat is the best free agent center on the market, Lowry is the best defensive PG on the market, together they will shore up our 2 weakest positions and give us an outside chance of making the playoffs if Kobe can return at a high level.

I never said just get Melo solely.
I said get Melo and Lowry, Melo and Pau, or even Melo and Gortat ... Stretch Nash. Mitch already admitted to the press they can't rely on him.
The way I see it, if you got Melo and Lowry, you bring hill back with the promise he starts at C. If you get Melo and Gortat, give Farmar a starting role or sweet talk Lance into taking less for 2 years to be paid in year 3 like JR Smith in NY.
I am in no way saying sign Melo or even Bron by themselves for 18-20mil and eat Nash for a year. Cut that damn anchor off the franchise.
I'd also say it isn't crazy to think Melo would be the main scorer and Kobe would set him up if he thought it would lead to winning. Kobe can adjust what he does and if he's the one reaching out he very well will

All I can say is "Go Chicago, go New York, Go Houston..." I don't want the guy here, unless paired with Lebron. To be honest, if we got Lebron, I'd prefer to sign guys like Ariza, Bledsoe, etc. over Melo.

I'd rather make offers for Lowry and Gortat and see if Houston matches a $10 million offer to Parsons as soon as free agency begins. We'd basically have Kobe and a bunch of guys willing to do the dirty work than an entitled albatross like Melo.

Ariza a only played well and hard in contract years. Bledsoe skipped knee surgery and giving him, Monroe, or. Parsons an offer sheet ties up your cap which can leave you standing with your dick in your hand while the good FAs are scooped up

Once Lebron says NO there's no one worth waiting for.

Also the cap space for 2015 is a little bogus too. Marc Gasol will stay in Memphis and Love will get traded to Golden State, Rondo goes elsewhere before that. If we can shore up some positions now we should do it.

I'd be good with that too, I like parsons, but I'm not sure I like tying up the cap hold. You ignore Melo and Bron, taking them out of play, because its prob easier to convince Bron if you have Melo ready to agree. You may also lose out on Deng waiting on the offer to be matched or not for Parsons. That leaves us with making a play for a guy like Ariza who only gets up for contracts or paying Lance more than he's worth IMO if Houston matches, which also puts Kobe at SF

Agree on Marc, and I think both Rondo and Love are traded to their new teams and stick around, only to enter free agency years from now like Melo did as the current CBA will be expiring

I also think bosh is guy worth adding if you can get him for around 14 after striking out on Bron and Melo. Then work some magic and add in 2-3 on decent pay. Just me, but I like Bosh with Kobe

Parsons would take the first flight to LA if there's a chance, trust me. He's as Hollywood as it gets and apparently told Simmons that he'd rather be on the next bachelor.
If Houston matches, well and good, they get cap strung early in free agency and we can play this game next season. We were always playing for an outside chance anyways.

Anthony could visit the Rockets and the Mavericks on the same day, the source said. Anthony has an off-season home in Los Angeles, which could make it easy to visit the Lakers. The source emphasized that the plan is to get the visits completed quickly at the start of free agency. Yahoo! Sports - See more at:
