Kobe's rape case held him back from MVP?

Hey guys, so I read many comments on people saying Kobe only has 1 MVP therefore he sucks.. blah blah blah. So I was wondering, since the MVP award is mostly influenced by media voting, do you think his image to the public kept him from winning the MVP? Same could be applied to maybe the finals MVP in 2002? Would Kobe have more MVPs in his belt if this incident never occured?
Personally, I think he would have maybe 2 more than what he has? What do you guys think?

the only big missed MVP shout was 2005/06 and the excuse offered at the time was the lakers weren't elite and the suns were, therefore nash
the rape might've turned public opinion against him but i don't really think kobe's play throughout 2006/07 or 2008-now really merited the MVP award over dirk and lebron

Shaq has 1 MVP... Kobe has 1 MVP... Phil Jackson only has 1 COY award. Biggest travesties in basketball that goes unnoticed

There really isn't any MVP awards that he didn't win that he has some overwhelming argument that he should have.
Also, 2002 finals were before rape case.
Last, if you're arguing with people that say kobe sucks cause he has one MVP you're wasting your time.

this thread is not worth the trouble it's asking for and there is very little evidence of anything like that being reality.
