Major cap jump?

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... um=twitter"Talks have progressed so rapidly that details are emerging on a massive agreement that would see the league’s annual rights fee more than double, with ESPN and Turner combining to pay more than $2 billion per year on average. One source said ESPN already has committed to pay “well over” $1 billion per year, and Turner is not far behind for a media rights extension that would kick in with the 2016-17 season."
"As part of the current eight-year deals that end in June 2016, ESPN pays $485 million per year and Turner pays $445 million per year on average, bringing the league’s total take at just less than $1 billion per year."
Going from 63 million to 79 million
if this holds true we can build a monster of a team:
2 stars
Big man either PF or C
wing or star PG
5-6 good role players
shooters
defenders
what do you guys think about the cap jump and this giving us more room to spend?

More cap room means more money for stars so this idea that you have more room to spend for more star players is actually wrong.

So if our stars are young players that received the max this year (Hayward and Parsons). Those are the type of players I'm talking about, they wont command the same type of max like James and Anthony.
max deals or deals like this
Chandler Parsons, Mavericks - 3 years, $46 million
Gordon Hayward, Jazz - 4 years, $63 million
Lance Stephenson, Hornets - 3 years, $27 million
Isaiah Thomas, Suns - 4 years, $27 million
not of these type of max deals
Carmelo Anthony, Knicks - 5 years, $120 million
Chris Bosh, Heat - 5 years, $118 million

Didn't a couple people report on the fact that the league might try to ease franchises into it, as in not make the cap jump as fast.

The "max" salary that a free agent can sign for in a NEW contract is a function of a fixed percentage of the cap. So if the cap goes up, then the price of max free agents goes up correspondingly. Think of it like inflation.
But the price of max contracts or other non-max contracts that are already "locked in" prior to the cap increase means that those EXISTING contracts will occupy a smaller relative percentage of the cap.
Think of it like shopping in the grocery market. Your budget goes up (salary cap), but the price of everything in the supermarket also goes up at the same time due to inflation (max contracts, MLE, as well as the market value of non-max guys). So you can't buy more, just the same amount of stuff, at higher prices.
However, the price of items you purchased YESTERDAY are already locked in, like if you'd stocked up on potatoes yesterday (locked in contracts prior to the cap increase).
So the opportunity play here is to lock players into contracts prior to the salary cap increase, so that when the cap increases, you open up some money because the potatoes you bought yesterday are now a smaller relative percentage of your budget spending. However, if you're going out to buy new potatoes now after the budget increase, the prices will be higher and you won't realize any savings.

Doesn't matter, the same principle applies.
If you lock them in now, whether Chandler Parsons or Isiah Thomas or Chris Bosh, then their salaries won't increase with the cap increase (and would actually decrease as a percentage of overall cap since the cap goes up but they're stuck in these contracts).
However, if you're trying to sign them as free agents after the cap increase, all of their prices will be higher with the inflation, since all of their maxes go up, as do the MLE's and market prices of everyone after adjusting for the inflation.

Unless you lock them in prior to the cap increase. In that case, the cap increase will open up extra spending flexibility because you'll have some guys locked in at the old pre-increase prices.

Not really. With the league making more money, the players will want more more money. Lebron signed a short term deal for this very reason.

the cap going up doesnt mean anything other than players will make more money especially stars. like someone said, max contracts are a % of the cap already so they will go up accordingly.
doesnt mean much of anything as far as ability to build a team imo.

Good point. However, one thing it would potentially change is the NBA's middle class, which really got squeezed in the last CBA. I wonder if we'll see less players be rumored to play in China and Europe if more money flows to the Gustavo Ayon and Pooh Jeters of the world.

As others noted, max salary is dependent on max cap, so unless your locking in a lot of other guys through the following few years then this doesn't matter all that much.
Note, minimum salary rate has been set until 2021, however max salary rate will move depending on the cap.
So no, as far as team building goes, the only way this would matter is if you already have a lot of guys locked in at current rates for awhile so they look cheaper once the cap goes up.
By the time we have 80m cap, the MLE will go from 5m ish to about 7-8m ish, so you probably need to adjust your view of what fair price is by about 2-3m. aka guys you view as 8m player now will probably make 10-11m .
