The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a one-year minimum contract deal for veteran point guard Ronnie Price, two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced.
The 31-year-old Price will be playing for the sixth team in his nine-year career. He last played for the Orlando Magic last season, logging just 31 games.

Edit: Nope, it looks like an actual roster addition. Insurance I guess.

I like it to be honest. Gives us insurance in case Nash goes down and also allows us to ease Clarkson into the role. Will bring good vet leadership to the lockeroom. Really feisty guy on the court also

I've always respected how feisty Price was. Remember seeing him in a pre-season game against us when he was on Utah years ago. Was real disruptive.

You guys think if Nash comes back and can't stay healthy the Lakers simply look to cut him/trade him as an expiring?
I know Price has been historically an end of the bench "scrub" and his stats wouldn't impress anyone, but I like bringing in another vet to set the tone for the young guys.
This will keep Clarkson sharp.
There's something about how it looks like we're going to fill out the roster to 15 players, and the quality of the guys they're signing, makes me really respect Mitch and Jim Buss this off-season. Thought they put some real nice pieces together last year to make a little noise.
But this team is even more gritty, IMO. And plays to Byron's strengths. They aren't screwing around, cheaping out with 13 men rosters, and from my vantage point they're trying to build a team and a culture that will compete for a playoff spot.
After years of watching them only go after the top tier talent, it's refreshing to see they can do the little things--and do them well. Keep at it, boys, and the big fish will come.

Wes, Ed Davis, Hill, X type signing gives me that sort of feel, Price on the other hand

, we know what he's capable of at this point and its not much. 15th spot would/should at least be a player that has some upside of potential. Clarkson is one of those high upside types but Price signing is a waste IMO.

It's about building a culture that fits the coaching style and essential personnel. I really doubt as a 15th man Price sees much time at all, but I bet in practice he's gonna be busting his ass, pushing these young guys.

I vaguely remember him offering nothing during the times we whooped the Jazz on an annual basis.

Our only shot at doing damage this year is a Healthy Kobe & Chemistry, period... Don't under estimate chemistry... Such as Toronto last year after the Gay trade... The guys we have picked up our solidified locker room players... Mitch is pushing for Chemistry...

Is it a camp deal only I guess ?
No reason we should straightly sign him even to a minimum contract.
Shouldn't there be some young quality players out there waiting for a chance with some upside, esp the ones who are not drafted this year?

i could understand the move if byron wanted a few instances where we would go with 2 points on the floor

this moves a non-sequitur. however, seeing as its a non-guaranteed deal, no big deal. still would have been nice to take a flier on a young, low-key name, IE: garret temple or e'twaun moore.
