I really think Byron doesnt really have a choice here. With Nash being in and out of the lineup and with his injury history its basically Jeremy Lin starting position. I'm pretty sure Nash will understand.

Nash starting is bad for stability....he has a far lower chance of staying healthy and Nash has no future with us anymore, at least with Lin there's potential for long term success.

No surprise here. Everyone knows this is happening.

Nash needs to man up and do what Luke did for Ariza in 09, he needs to go to Byron and say "start Jeremy over me". Lin's a better player at this point in their careers and it's better for the starters overall to have that continuity since Lin is going to be starting all of the games that Nash is going to be out anyways.

Bound to happen. Let's hope Lin will be aggressive offensively. Our starting lineup needs a lot of work.

Not enough shooting, defense, playmaking....

The way Kobe's playing: not shooting 3s, drawing fouls, etc he's gonna have to shoot about 22-24 shots to get 20 points. I mean it's early still, but to me, last game showed we can't just trot out Kobe and ask him to lead this damn team like it's no sweat. We need some more firepower in that starting lineup.

Nash wasn't looking to get himself involved, save for occasional Nash one handed layup, so this is really for the best. If Nash isn't gonna score then we need Wes, Hill, and Boozer to contribute, but all 3 are playing like they know they're outgunned and scared.

Lin
Kobe
Wes
Boozer
Hill

I'm not sold that addresses the lack of aggression either....

Lin
Ellington
Kobe
Boozer
Hill

Again, still not impressed. We could wait to see if Hill gets his legs back, or if Boozer picks it up after Nash moves to the bench, but we might have to try moving Kelly, Randle, or Davis up...but that will just move that problem to the bench.

One thing about Randle and Lin starting together...do they really mesh with their styles of play? They both are aggressive in taking it to the basket, but not sure they would get the proper touches with Kobe plus spacing wouldn't be great, teams would just collapse.

We might eventually need to also start Clarkson with Kobe...IDK, I think we need another gutsy player on that starting 5 to take the load off and hit some 3s, but more importantly play defense. Perhaps that's what Ellington provides, but I think we need Clarkson's athleticism...

Lin
Clarkson
Kobe
Boozer
Davis

Man, wish Kelly were a better rebounder, or we had signed a great rebounding wing like Aminu as Ty suggested.

I think Wes Johnson is a waste of space.

A few weeks ago some of you were hung on the Wesley Johnson train and his defense. How quickly things have changed.

I said all along it made no sense to start Nash over Lin, we were never going to gain any consistency that way. Lin may not be a great defender, but he ain't as putrid as Nash. Hope Byron sticks with this thought.

I already said we needed to get rid of Nash before all this "good news" about him. I knew he wouldn't last. I said we needed to get rid of Wes Johnson too. The guy is still bricking shots like no other. In the end this is going to be another lottery season.

I hope I'm wrong, but all signs are pointing towards a lottery season.

better for nashs health in the long haul being he dont have to guard the tougher west starting pgs while he can school the opponents bench.

It's bound to happen. At least Nash will be consoled by some nice paycheques :)

I love Steve Nash btw, been watching him since he was on the Canadian junior national team. Hopefully he can still contribute in spurts and provide leadership and guidance.

I think it's a good idea, as I just posted a while ago:

I think Lin should play PG as starter unless Nash is fully healthy and I think he can handle more than 30 minutes. If Nash starts and he's in and out of the lineup, it'd be kinda disruptive. I can certainly understand that he deserves a certain kind of respect tho.

It seems to me the combo of Clarkson and Nash would work pretty well as the second unit. Clarkson is better suited to play SG and he can take some ball-handling/defensive responsibilities from Nash while Nash can concentrate on facilitating and spotting up, playing against lesser opponents. I think Lin probably works better with Kobe than Nash does also.

So:

PG- Lin 33/Nash 15
SG- Kobe 33/Clarkson(Henry) 15
SF- Johnson 22/Young 26
PF- Boozer 22/Davis 11/Randle 15
C - Hill 22/Davis 15/Sacre(Kelly) 11

Besides, to have Lin shoulder more responsibilities from Kobe would be a big plus as well, defensively, scoring and facilitating.

yeah it's basically a necessity at this point. I just don't think it's a good idea overall to have Kobe and Nash in the same back court at the same time.

It all comes down to match ups but IMHO Nash needs to start. Nash needs to go against the other vet PGs starters. Nash has looked worse against young bench players with more athleticism. Lin is fine with backing up the 2xMVP.

The Lakers have a 2 headed dragon at point. 24 mins for Nash, 24 mins for Lin. I just wish we didn't waive Marshall. He stepped up in a major way when given the opportunity. Was an assist leader in the NBA when he played full games. I thought he was a deal at the minimum for a young player.

It was a gamble but needed to be done once the Lakers realized they won the bid when Boozer got amnestied. They needed to free up cap space to sign Boozer. Afterwards, they would try to get Marshall back but the Bucks got him.

Marshall wasn't anything special, but he's a good insurance if we were able to get him.

I think Ronnie Price would do a good job as a back up. Marshall could dish out assists. Price just throw shoes.

tough situation. the 2nd unit is more athletic and would benefit with lin more as he wants to push the ball

I'd start Lin, and Nash is from Victoria. It doesn't matter, and Steve is smarter than that anyhow. No one ever talks about that exciting first three of the game aka who finishes matters. Ask Carlos Boozer, as I can imagine he'd have a very specialized opinion on that matter.

We still need Nash

in the deadline, im pretty sure Mitch would move him and fillers for an impact player... we will see.
