Cap smoothing?

So the NBPA obviously shot down that idea so the cap will increase significantly after next season. This could benefit the lakers tremendously. They should take advantage of the ability to sign young talent this off season even if it's a max contract. Tobias Harris and Greg Monroe are two players I would sign to the max both if possible.
Both players are b to b plus type players but once the cap goes up those contracts will look like steals.

I definitely think the Lakers should sign someone to their max, even if it's a slight over pay that's needed to steal someone, before the cap jumps. Since max deals are based on a percentage of the cap, max deals next summer are going to be way higher and make these max deals look fine.

Totally agree. It's smarter to sign these players to have a foundation especially since they are 25 or younger. Having those players with randle top 5 pick and cap space is deadly

But who do we offer a max is the question.
I guess we wait until we see what we end up in the draft and go from there.

I don't think theres much thats worth the max. Might be good to just pay 2 or 3 players. We only have around 25m to spend under the cap. Thats money for 1 max plus slightly a little more Or 3 mid range players.

There's also the ability to sign a good/near max player for someone else and trade them for an already signed star.

I mean... that's totally Lakerstyle

Give some to Monroe, his deal would look rather cheap once the cap is raised. And we would still have 2 max slots left.

But to bring this back to reality people still forget that the tax implications will still be the same. Still gonna have to pay for every million that you're over the cap which will lead in to the repeater tax if it runs into year 4.

Ehh it all won't matter anyways seeing as the lockout will come the next season after that in summer of '17.
