Who is this guy? His Wikipedia page says that he was a D-League star, so why wasn't he playing sooner?

we didnt have roster spot for him
and i dont think him being d-league star has to do with why we didnt sign him earlier.

Weirdly enough, that does make sense.

In my time watching Meeks as a Laker I would say his best season playing for the Lakers was the season prior before he went to play for Detroit. Would Jabari Brown be that poor season version of Meeks? Or would Meeks seasons prior with the 76ers be more comparable?

Right now he's Meeks of 76ers version. Jodie added a ton of versatility to his game in his final season, defensively he was still a turnstile but he was putting the ball on the floor and making cuts to get easy buckets.

Thank you for the explanation.

He's more athletic than Meeks. He has more moves especially relative to age.

If he continues to play like this until the end of the season than I am all for letting someone else pay Weezy his 8 mil.

I can definitely see Ellington getting paid elsewhere, good for him too. We're low key saving players from extinction hahaha
I wouldn't mind Jabari back next year to fill in for Weezy, I think he'll be nice with the bench mob to provide some offensive punch if needed. I also liked his hustle on defense. He's no great defender but I'm a firm believer in that defense requires no talent to be passable, just effort. We don't need him to be elite, just passable and so far I think he's done that. I'd definitely like him back for the rest of the year.

In their contract seasons with the Lakers. Per 36:
Weezy: 14/4/4 12 PER 51% TS 36% from 3
Jodie: 17/2/3 15 PER 60% TS 46% from 3
Safe to say Weezy won't be getting paid remotely like M33ks. Weezy might be a better defender but Jodie had a mini-Korver like season under D'Antoni.

but im more impressed with how Weezy playing this season. Meeks last season ? his stats was pretty but when its feel empty. The one who brought us get so many unncessary wins was Nick Young.
Weezy also better off the dribble shooter than Meeks, and Meeks unproven to play next to superstar. He suddenly losing ability to shoot when Kobe around.

The good thing about Jabari is that if he were to develop into a solid SG, you could have a very solid 1-4 with Clarkson, Brown, Stanley Johnson, and Randle. He's a guy that will give the Lakers options in the future if he continues to progress. A number of Mizzou fans have mentioned they thought he was a better player than Clarkson in college.

Meeks was undeniably more productive than Weezy, but remember, he played under the dantoni get paid system. Weezy's offensive game is much more versatile than Jodie's.

You don't question versatility when someone is shooting 46% from 3. That gets you paid no matter what else you do.
Weezy might be better at trash picking than Jodie but he's still a bad trash picker compared to the league average and that won't get him paid.

Jodie shot 46 percent from the field, not 3 lol. He shot 40 percent from deep last year, a feat that he had only come close to achieving one other time in his career. When you look at where dantonis boys are today: Kendall goat Marshall, Jewish Jordan, r Kelly, bazemore, etc. you really come to appreciate what dantoni did for his players. X and swaggy p get a pass because they were injured, but it's not like swaggy was lighting up the league when he was healthy this year.
Fun hypothetical: what would Wayne Ellington average under dantoni?

My bad on that, I don't necessarily penalize numbers under D'ANtoni when the entire league is adapting the same philosophy. There was a reason why stuck Hill on a short leash despite what looked amazing numbers in limited minutes. The man was onto something before we could see it. It just sucks he doesn't even pretend to care about setting up a league average defense.
