Best doomsday scenarios

The Sixers get the 6th pick and the lakers strike out with all the big name free agents (Jordan, Harris, Monroe and above). What are your best doomsday backup plans in terms of who to draft and chase in free agency?

Things to consider:
-the lakers are looking for a center who can act as the defensive anchor as well as a starting wing.

-if the lakers convey their pick this year, they could choose to tank it out next year

-next year is going to be Kobe's last year in all likelihood so the lakers could go the other direction

-the lakers have the rockets pick and an extremely valuable early 2nd rounder

If the pick is lost, you proceed as usual.

I have the Lakers going big if they kept the pick, so if they lose it, to me, it just means that you miss out on an outstanding temporary backup center.

Without the pick, it just means, in addition to acquiring a guy like Brook Lopez to start, they would have to retain either Hill or Davis to slot as the backup at center.

It'd be a very tough pill to swallow (Towns brings so much more to the table than Hill or Davis), but, in the end, you keep it movin'.

Cry and suddenly realize what the Clippers went through for almost a century.... Then realize that the Lakers are never down for long and laugh..... On the inside, that is.

This would be a double whammy doomsday scenario for the simple reason that if we keep this top 5 pick then we are ALSO off the hook for the 1st round pick in 2017 to the magic. Instead we send the magic 2 second round picks -which I prefer lol.

If sixers get the 2016 1st round pick then magic cannot get the 2017 1st round pick due to draft protection rules about consecutive picks.

That is why I hope 76ers pass us in the standings so we can improve odds from 82% to 97% to keep this years top 5 pick.

You have the protection details wrong.

2017 first round draft pick to Orlando
If at least two years after the L.A. Lakers conveyed a 1st round pick to Phoenix, then the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Orlando protected for selections 1-5 in 2017 and 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019; if the L.A. Lakers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia by 2017, then the L.A. Lakers will instead convey their 2017 2nd round pick and 2018 2nd round pick to Orlando [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012; L.A. Lakers-Orlando, 8/10/2012; Milwaukee-Philadelphia-Phoenix, 2/19/2015]

You would have to not convey the pick in 2016 or 2017 for it to become 2 2nds to Orlando instead of a first

would serve mgmt. a nice reminder to stop f'ing sending our 1st pick away like its a disease.....every dam year even when we were good, they either sold it or pretty much just gave em away. I remember teams use to always give up 1st picks for expiring contract, we gave one away to get rid of Sasha expiring contract.....so f'ing careless

can someone tell me if next season's pick is top 3 protected?

regardless i see next year as another tank year. no key free agents will want to sign next year to play beta to a green light kobe who thinks he's 10 years younger. however, the following year i do see huge free agent signings.

If we get our pick this year then it's top 3 protected next year. If we lose our pick this year then we're guaranteed to have it next year. Obviously it would be best to have the top 5 pick this year but it's not the end of the world if we lose it (I see some crazy people saying we'll be set back for a decade if we lose this pick).

-We lose the pick
-Randle retires and becomes a journalist
-Clarkson decides to play in the Philippines full time
-Byron Scott signs a lifetime coaching contract
-Kobe signs a lifetime contract worth $100M a year (that counts against the cap)
-We sign Chris "Geeter" McGee to be our starting PG

Shall I go on?
