Former NBA guard Javaris Crittenton was sentenced to 23 years in prison and 17 years of probation on Wednesday after entering a guilty plea on charges related to the 2011 shooting death of an Atlanta woman.
The 27-year-old Crittenton — who played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards in a two-year NBA career and is best known by NBA fans for his 2009 firearms-in-the-locker-room confrontation with then-teammate Gilbert Arenas — pleaded guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter with a weapon and aggravated assault with a firearm. Prosecutors dropped the murder charge against him as part of the plea agreement.

man I remember the hype that this had on this board when we got him. I wonder if his life would have been different if he didn't get traded. sad he wasted his life.

He was apparently connecting up with bangers in LA right after he arrived, we did him a solid by moving him on.

Yeah... I can't decide if I feel bad for him or hate him... Regardless, I guess he got what was coming to him. But he's a tough read for me...

He was only in the league for two years? Didn't realize that

Deep if you ever heard his old coach or mom talk, you would see that he wasn't in the hood growing up. He got into it as a player actually. That's why I think its silly to even have the college one year rule as college didn't mature him. He was sheltered as a high schooler and teen. Money corrupted him as he wanted to party and do the things he wasn't allowed to do as a teen so he wouldn't get into this type of trouble.


He is not jr smith or Matt Barnes who came from the actual hood and admit it, and its kinda ironic because despite their ups and downs actually having grown up in the hood gives them the common sense to draw a line and stay in the league so they don't go back

Interesting.....actually I've seen that scenario also. Guys who wanted to get into being hood tough and was brought up a different way to begin with. I read an article last year where it said he made connections with a known LA gang ( that I know but won't say) that he had no business even hanging with. Bottom line this is a sad situation for his family and him.

Maybe he'll the Georgia state pen will play the Wisconsin state pen and he'll match up agsinst Sprewell

Yeah its a total sad situation. It was just that much more sad when you read stuff like his mom took an extra job to pay for after school programs and camps for him, and that his coach stayed active in his life and stayed up on him and even checked in on him him at college for that year. La was too much, too soon I think. He got money, a big city, and no supervision all at once, and some people aren't ready for that. Its a sad situation all around with him wasting an opportunity and talent, his mother and his old coach sacrifices meaning nothing no as they are older and he could still be in prison when they are old, and especially sad for the young lady whose family lost a mother/sister/daughter

JR Smith is not from the hood, he's from a suburban New Jersey township which is 90% white.
