"Clearly, at the top of the draft at this time, there are two bigs, and we have the second pick,” Kupchak told Cowherd.

Doomed in FA since draft day. Way easier to find guards.

What are they waiting for? Do they think they still have a shot at LaMarcus?

Rather have Russell than any player in free agency this year, excluding LeBron. Bold statement I know, but it's true.

Don't worry we're about to make headlines with Amare and Jason Smith.

Same here. I'd also rather have Okafor than any FA this year. I just think we're gonna have to exercise patience because we drafted Russell. Players around the league are gonna want to see if he and Randle are the real deal or not.

This offseason would be alot more depressing if we didn't have at least one front court player with promise--we have that in Randle.

Upshaw is a pretty decent player for a center. I think he'll surprise some people at Summer League.

Lakers also made a strategic pick on Russell forcing Sixers to grab another center. One of the three centers plus their Power Forwards are most likely going to be on the blocks in the near future and the Lakers can grab them up.

Randle got the perfect teammate to complement his game in Russell.

I'm just glad the Lakers didn't go near Rondo with a 10 ft pool (sorry Aki, had to mention it again)

Sometimes the best move is not to sign the wrong player *coughSwaggyPcough*

I don't think so. I think they only worry about themselves. It's clear the workouts had more impact than a seasons worth of games, given the quote from Mitch I posted earlier in this thread.

Russell compliments every position well. But like I said, other players in the league are going to want to see it for themselves before they join up.

We need to do everything possible to have as much capspace as possible for next offseason. Stars are going to come to the Lakers, but in pairs.

I like Russell a lot but would have rather picked Okafor.
I agree with Ty that it is easier to get impact gurds through free agency, than impact centers.
Although I'm excited about our furture with our youngsters, I think picking Russell instead of Okafor delays our return to the playoffs by some time.

Stars aren't going to chose la when they can choose other teams all with better and proven players when everyone has cap space

Ok, plan 26F Load up on one year deals and trade for expiring deals. Then next season hopefully... Sign multiple free agents. Or strike out again.

Back to your scheduled programing of gains through player development.

So repeats the same dumb stuff from past two years and hope for something different when other teams also have cap space and better players ... Jimmy and Mitch that you?

On the comment about the whole strategic pick, reading it again it sounds like I was implying the Lakers intentionally made this move for that point. But that was just me over thinking the move and came up with that idea to foresee some potential effect that I believe will most likely occur.

Anyway, my other point that you also mention is Russell complimenting Randle and as you said every position. I think players will see that after next season if everything goes accordingly to plan.

To attract free agents next year, 1) Kobe either has to retire or take a lesser role... if next season shows a decline that will most likely occur. But this is Kobe we're talking about so who knows, he might prove me wrong. Players see Kobe as an old, injury-prone grandfather about to retire some day now and Kobe still thinks that it's his team and he's got first bite. 2) Our young studs prove a lot of potential as stars want to play with stars and want to compete on a contender. This Free Agency is proving that point.
