Why don't we have one of these?

I can't stop my weird obsession to get into the 1,000 lb club. Help.

Maybe, but this is LA. I would think enough individuals here are into keeping their bodies right for the women and beaches.

Or does LA not have a big fitness scene?

EArl could have some insights especially for your lower body strength. Wavy's got a wash board abs regimen. TyCobb has a playbook on how to get chicks at the gym.

I'd have to get seriously huge to join the 1000 lb club, which is not something I want. I tend to stick to the Marine Corps PFT. On a good night I can get 12 pull-ups, 100 crunches and run the 3-mile in under 28 minutes. I try to do this twice a week, and keeps me in great shape along with my Sunday pick-up games. Nutrition is what's really important for looking good on the beach. I tend to stick as closely as possible to the paleo diet.

I was a long-distance runner/cardio freak of nature for the longest time while still maintaining some semblance of a "built" look (was pulling sub 8 minute 1.5 mile runs easily for PFT's in the military). Was far too much to maintain given long work hours, etc with a new position at work. So now I just lift, like crazy and count everything that goes in my body.

Needless to say, my deadlift is holding back my "1,000lb club" induction. I'm plateauing. It's not pretty.

Anytime you plateau, it's time to mix it up. Try different exercises and higher rep workouts for a while, then switch back to your normal routine.

I'm mostly a mid distance person. Ran track and cross country in high school/ college. I'm taking a break from running to save my knees. I've been biking more now. I have thought about doing an IRon man in the future. Nothing set.

Anyone here gone through an acl surgery and might have tips on recovery/therapy? I'm scheduled to get the surgery done in September.

I've really struggled to put on weight the last 5-6 months. I've almost completely cut out cardio, but I still can't put on weight the way I want to. Currently sitting at 175, but I want go get somewhere around 185-190. Any nutrition experts here that can help me figure out this dilemma?

Hey,
I tore my acl in august 2014 and had surgery December 2014. I'm currently 7 months post-op. What I can suggest is that use your own graft. Do not opt for an allograft as your body might reject it or it may transmit disease (low chance). I used patella tendon graft and I'm recovering fine. It's going to take a lot of work on your part. You lose a lot of muscle from your surgical leg after the procedure so strengthening it before surgery will improve your post surgical Rehab.
After surgery your main focus should be to get full extention first. You don't want scar tissue to build up as it can prevent you from fully straightening your knee which will require further surgery. Flexion will come over time so don't worry about that.
Also take your pain medication. Trust me. First week will be hell.

depends what body fat you are at right now, if youre very lean growth will happen slowly. chances are youre simply not eating enough, you need to figure out what your maintenance level is and force yourself to eat over, for your average male this is ~2300 calories so you need to be eating around 2500-2700 calories to actually grow (any more than this and you will be putting on more fat than you want, but if you dont care and want to be a beast af powerlifter than eat 3k+ calories).

getting bigger is almost entirely down to diet, if youre not eating enough food then you wont grow. count your calories and see how much youre eating. you dont have to cut cardio to get bigger, you just need to eat more food.

also if all you care about is aesthetics you really dont need to be doing power or olympic lifts, just a regular body building split is good enough.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm going to be using the hamstring graft. My doctor gave me the choice of all 3 but pushed me toward the hamstring over the patella due to the lower risk of knee pain down the road.

I've heard of people recommending to start their extension therapy as soon as the same day of surgery, seemed a little crazy to me. How soon did you start to work on range of motion?

I'm glad you've came to the HFW Thread. Me and you will own this **** son.

Can you provide the thread participants a good macro split for an aspiring bulker like the little guy The Regime?

Take glucosamine/chondroitin.. that whole saving your knees thing is blasphemy imo with proper body maintenance.

glucosamine supplement is a sham. It is impossible to get those supplements via digestion to the synovial joints in your knee or other parts for that matter. FYI read into your supplements before you buy them or your basically just producing expensive urine.

Really want to continue dead lifting but due to my previous lumbar strain, I'm afraid my back will become too tight.

Just by weeks of playing basketball I'm back to doing William Flexors and taking collagen supplements. Anyone with experience of back tightness?
